Compound bow questions- from a newbie

So I have been using a crossbow for three years now. I took some deer but have had some issues with the crossbow. Long story short I'm moving over to compound. I have some questions.
1. Do most of you stand in your tree stand or sit. I'm trying to figure out how you stand and raise the bow without being seen.
2- do you use a bow holster or hanger. I have multiple stands I go in so I would need something that can go with me. I was looking at bow holsters. Any out there that actually work?

I stand to shoot even if I am sitting down, it makes it a challenge. I do not use a bow holder I have it sitting on my lap. It works for me but I am hunting out of permanent ladder stands.

 

I use hangers in each stand that I have. I like to be standing to shoot (always remember to bend at the waist) but most of my stands allow me to shoot sitting down.

 

Definitely use bow holders have one at each stand! Shoot standing!

Any tips on getting up to stand without being seen?

 

I use a bow holder as well.
I only change position if the shot demands it.
I sit most of the time so I make sure that I can shoot sitting, but if I need to stand I will otherwise I move as little as possible.

 

Stand as quickly as possible when the deer's head is behind a tree

 

Listen and stand before the come in. If caught ease up in one motion.

I usually have a sawed limb that Ihang my bow on. Practice shooting in a seated position just in case.

Wait until the deer is behind a tree or behind a few smaller trees to stand up. Also don't read a book, listen to an mp3 player or phone. Always be scanning the woods so you see them coming. That will give you the best chance to get stood up. If you see them 50, 70 or even 100 yards out it's easy to stand up.

 

I always seem to hear the bucks or sometimes does coming before I see them... Seems like once the leaves fall they tend to make a little more noise.

Not always the case... But generally I feel like I hear them, (or a squirrel) and I slowly rise up from a seated position and try to rotate towards the noise. Then I'm usually trying to get my binos up to get a peek.

Any bow holders better than others? Difference between screw ins VS bolt one.

 

As far as bow holders if allowed to use screw in types. I really, really like the ones from Hawk . They're light weight, are probably the easiest screw in anything because of their auger style.
And the cam cleat folds over so you don't have an open screw point poking through your pocket or bag.

 

i try and stand to shoot but i practice all summer sitting as well just in case. i place a hanger at each of my stands so i dont have to take them out each time i hunt. Best way to stand without being caught is to see them coming so you have time to stand. if they sneak in wait til they are behind a tree and then stand

 

I like the realtree holders. Got short ones, long ones, and even one with double extensions that are strong enough. Fully extended reaches out quite a ways if need be. You can even get a camera holder to put on it by Muddy with a head to film hunts and use the holder as a camera arm

It really depends on the setup, but on almost all of my sets, I prefer to be standing. I practice both and am prepared for both, but prefer to stand.

I sit until it's time to stand. I've never shot a deer sitting down. All my stands have some type of hanger that keeps the bow in easy reach. I do know some guys that lay theirs across their laps in the stands.
