It's hilly for sure, but it's manageable. Some areas are tougher terrain. I hunt where there is more agriculture so it's not as bad Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pretty hard during shotgun season, and it really depends on access, where I hunt it's about a 200 acre parcel surrounded by private land and I haven't seen anyone there at all yet. I find it funny how the guys who dont live here seem to know what it is that is ruining the hunting in ohio.... Well considering I DO live hereI Will tell you public land is a rough and touchy subject with many residents. Public land has become very very rough hunting. There are pockets of public that are decent, and it is still very possible to kill a good deer on public. Although, public hunting in ohio isnt what it was 5 years ago... If there is anything that has ruined the hunting in Ohio, it isnt the non resident hunters...... How many non residents do you think come to Ohio to shoot a doe? They dont come here for does, they come to kill a buck... THere are two types that have ruined ohio with the states help by allowing liberal bag limits... FIrst and foremost the #1 enemy to ohio has been the amish.... They come in droves and they will straight decimate a deer herd.... Go to the wayne the week of gun season. I Will bet you anything they will out number the english 10 to 1..... They come in large groups and they shoot every deer they see. They party hunt and are there to fill tags.. They dont care of the effect they leave, because once they destroy one area, they move to the next... The other group that is the problem are the "I need to shoot my limit" people. They think its a competition to see how fast they can shoot the state wide limit of deer. This group will also complain about not seeing deer, but when a deer walks in front of them, they will kill it. They are much like the amish, they are just out to shoot stuff... The excuse they give is "i need to fill my freezer." They dont understand that the land cannot sustain the amount of pressure they are putting on it. The deer herd will only take so much of a beating before it cannot keep up. convincing these people to stop shooting does it like talking to a wall..... They dont and wont ever get it. They are to thick skulled.
my in laws live in the heart of amish country... They own a 180 acre farm with some of the best habitat you will see... Alfalfa fields. rose thickets, and big oak flats..... my father inlaw was telling me he wasnt seeing deer and wasnt seeing any tracks.. I told him to throw a camera up over corn and i would prove to him there were deer there..... 3 weeks went by......not one deer photo.... coons and squirrels.... they are surrounded on all 4 sides by amish.. you do the math
in the last week I knocked on 4 doors with 2k in my hand, and was still turned down.... its even rough to lease land around here
The guy I talked to yesterday was very polite, but cited the amount of trespassers he's recently had; one had the stones to pitch a tent in his woods... Another huge part of the problem.
