What's the latest you have taken a buck in the season with your bow? Please share some late winter pics of bow kills if you have one and a little of the story. I usually hang it up and start waterfowl hunting but I have the desire to keep at it through the snow. Would like to hear some success stories from you guys...
Dec. 28th 2015, the fun is just about to start if you can put up with the cold. Bucks tend to come out a lot more in daylight trying to put on weight they lost during the rut and the waterfowl hunting is pretty much done and over with by the time December roles around in ND.
Shot this guy Jan 4th, second to last day of the bow season last year. I was sitting between bedding and a food plot, shot him 45 mins before dark.
Have you seen any signs of the rut starting or that its over. Been out every weekend. So no chasing what so ever.
Rut is just about over here in the midwest. Sorry I dont have any tips for you, I dont know anything about North Dakota other than that it has pheasants and wind.
Where you near in ND i know down south on 83 it was going two weekends ago and just started up north good last weekend.
I really never seen to much chasing nor seeking activity during daylight here in Indiana I had a buck breed a doe in front of me last week while on stand. That's been the extent for me. Any scrapes I knew of never had any visitors during daylight hours. Been kind of a dud year for me. Hoping to find one late season now
Latest I killed a buck was the end of the 3rd week of Nov in Alberta, back in 2006. He didn't have the biggest rack, but he weighed in at 300lbs.
I have learned to love the late season here in Ohio. My last two bucks were shot on January 24th and December 21st. Both with a bow. My pics are on my old phone and I need to down load them to the computer. So January 24th is the latest buck for me and January 31st is my latest deer. Our season is usually in until about February 7th or so.
First deer I ever shot was a nice 4 point on Dec. 31st, at about 5pm.... season closed on Dec. 31st and 5:15. Freezing cold day, I could hardly draw the bow between cold muscles and buck fever! T
Black Friday buck 10 years ago. The temp was around 10 degrees walking out to the stand that morning.
