Wish I had the option to manage property but where I get to hunt, if it's 2-3years old it gets whacked by surrounding hunters. I have been passing for a long time but never see the rewards. There are big ones around us but they are so pressured it's just hard to see them.

I used to hunt strictly public lands and had the same problems. Luckily a buddy and I received permission to hunt almost 1000 acres of unpressured land. The people who hunt the surrounding properties seem to have the same philosophy we do because we have noticed a lot of the you get deer from last year made it through the season.

Probably not going to be going back to Ga this year to hunt, have been offered a trip to Tennessee and also Kentucky, both seem very promising. As long as my school and work schedules work out in my favor, another trip in December should be open for one of those trips! If I get to go on the Kentucky trip I should be guaranteed for a doe, and there are some monsters on camera there!

Had a buck on top of a doe tonight 100 yards out. Then they both bed down. Never moved more than 20 yards.

He paid no attention to my grunts other than looking my way

73 degrees and rutting? Crazy season

Do you guys use some website to score deer? I finally have time away from school that I can score him, but need to figure out how to do it. Thanks!

I'm guessing this is where the caption steps in...just kidding. I had not scored a deer in a bunch of years and had to watch videos of it before doign mine this year. In fact, I did not even know the difference between P&Y and B&C.

It really is easy however, not knowing where to start can be intimidating.

    1. There is a set of measurements: Inside spread (1), Main beams (2), All of your tine lengths, and circumfrence at (4) points. If you have additional kicker points, they would also be added to the final score. The standard is to record all measurements in 1/8's. You can convert each to decimal to make it easier. For our contest, there is no need for subtractions, etc. Yup, kinda that easy.
    2. Some tools that make it easier. For a quick and dirty measure, you can simply use a flexible tape measure. Like the one that you roll up. If you do not have that. Get a string and a standard tape measure.
    3. Watch a video or two and get measuring! Here is one that is not bad. How to Score / Measure a Whitetail Deer - YouTube

Just remember. You are not an official P&Y scorer and no one expects you to be. Just be honest and do the best you can.

I would be more than happy to talk you through it. I can be free for a short call or facetime, etc.

So, you shoud have measurements like this

    Inside spread: XX
Main beams (2): Left: XX Right XX
    Tines (L), (R)
    G1 X, X
    G2 X, X
    G3 X, X
    G4 X, X
You would add more G's if you had them...

    Circumference (L), (R)
    H1 X, X
    H2 X, X
    H3 X, X
    H4 X, X

Additional point length: I do not believe you buck had any.

Total Score: Add up all of the above

You just needed that doe to walk toward you!

It is a crazy season and buck are still crazy in PA. I had a real nice shooter show up in my back yard at 10:30 today.

    Team -

Let's do a mid season checkin. What does your hunting situation look like the rest of the year.

For me, I will begin next Saturday (rifle season), with my cross bow and target doe. That gives me two Saturdays and then the month of Jan for doe. Likely use a crossbow the whole time. Never killed one using that weapon.

Hey guys - I know the season gets a little long and this time of year with gun kicking in. Let's hear what you have cooking or don't have cooking. It's OK if you are not getting out much or switched to the rifle. Just provide some talk and updates when you have time.
