Sounds stupid (perhaps there is a more awesome name)but we started it two years ago and its been a very positive addition to the bag of calling tricks. Deer don't fight up I trees. Sparring or fighting should include hoof pounding and leaf rustle at ground level for realism. Rattling with a real set of large antlers is a two handed activity meaning you don't have ahold of your bow and if deer are close you have to go through the motion of putting away the antlers and picking up your bow. Dangle rattling is a one handed activity and you don't have to put anything away, simply ley go of the rope (which is tethered to the tree your in.) The dangle rope is used to wrap the two antlers together for transport. Just another way to go about it.
i like the idea. i was just thinking of this last time i rattled. i wished there was a way i could rustle the leaves. the only thing i would like to see is a way to make more aggressive contact with the antlers. Nice out of the box thinking though. im sure it would work
actually one time a friend and i took turns sitting on the ground under the tree and rattled and called from ground level while being very concealed.
I've seen deer respond to the sound of other deer running through the woods. I believe this would be effective with practice.
I like the idea of this concept, this seems to me the sound of 2 bucks fighting in a natural environment. This idea, would draw more successful results.

Love the idea...I tied a string to a hinged sapling and would pull it while rattling.....this would be much easier.
I do this with a rattle bag and it works well. When dropping the bag down it puts out a loud thud like a foot stomp.
I have tried this before also. I can't remember any real results, but that's how it goes with rattling though. The one thing I see a lot of deer respond to is deer walking/running. I can't count the times I've had deer hear me walk into a stand and come in within seconds of me climbing up Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
Guys have been doing this for years... sorry but not exactly groundbreaking stuff here. Hell I remember reading an article in like Outdoor Life or similar 20ish years ago...
Yep started doing it many, many, many years ago myself. its old news to some of us hunters but maybe new to some of the younger and or newer hunters out there.
With as many squirrels as I have around every one of my stands, I'd probably be spending hours fighting them off from chewing on my antlers!
Agreed. I dont recall anybody ever saying this method was new or ground breaking. In fact I think it started out by saying that is just another way to go about it. I think some need to get into the woods and work out some issues.
Actually... it was the last thing you said. and, if I spent anymore time in the woods lately I'd have to bring along a sleeping bag but thanks for your concern about whatever issues you think I have... lmao
This and the long garden hose hooked up to a grunt call on the ground = too much setup and cr@p in the woods (but it seems interesting).
