Chase phase is picking up down this way, saw three good mature bucks chasing does during the day while I was working this week. Pulled the camera card on the food plot (what's left of it anyway) and got this one on several days. Of course it was while I was working or hunting on the back 40. Oh well, that's hunting.

Well I haven't had a sit under 50° all season and this week is no exception, 60° high Saturday and Sunday

I know last year's gun opener was 65°, hoping these temps drop dramatically soon..

Leaving work at noon today! Going to be hunting hard this weekend and next, before the orange army hits the woods.

Anyone else have terrible luck after gun openers?

Tuesday morning around 9 I was sitting up in the tree. Hadn't seen a deer Monday or up to that time that morning. Found an old box of Milk duds from last year in my pack. While trying to get them out of the box, I saw movement in front of me. Thick vegetation, then I saw a leg. Deer, thinking it was a doe, I didn't get real excited then he stepped out into an opening, Wide rack and he turned and headed straight toward me. He turned broadside at about 15 yards and still no clear shot as he entered a real thick patch of brush. He turned again and was headed straight toward about a 10 foot wide shooting lane. He stopped before entering the open area and again turned toward me. The only thing sticking out of the thicket was his rack (all 10 points of it) and the top of his head. Only 10 yards away. Two more steps was all I was thinking. He stopped. Sniffed the ground then looked past the tree I was in. Again he sniffed the ground and then looked past the tree I was in. I'm thinking something must have taken a leak there when he sniffed the ground again. Just then a dog barked in the direction he had been looking. He did a 180 and bounded off, never flagged but he was gone. Guess that's why we call it hunting. I'm taking 4 days off next week before the pumpkin army hits the woods. Good luck to all.

In a tree waiting for light. Staying till dark or success. Whichever comes first.

    Good Luck!

I almost got out of my stand Saturday at 10:30 but something made me stay a little longer, glad I did!

I had a big 10 point coming toward my stand last night. He was about 75 yds out when a group of 5-6 turkeys came walking through the woods behind me from the other direction. The buck seemed to hear the turkeys and it stopped him in his tracks. He never got any closer. He stood in the same spot for 10-15 minutes and finally started walking away. I grunted at him a couple of times, but it didn't bring him back.

Yep, they are running hard here as well and it's that time when the bucks are just stupid. I've had several bucks the last few days walk right out in the open and just stand there like they are retarded, right out by roads and me sitting in the truck.

Had some poaching going on too.

Me too. It's a sad POS that gets his jollies by driving out into the country and shooting deer off another person's property, from the road and leaving it lay in the field for eagles and yotes to eat just because they like to kill sh*t. Stupid effers, I wonder how they'd feel if people started going around shooting their kids and pets in their yards for no reason except that they like to kill stuff.

Someone shot a doe across the road straight out from one of my gates day before yesterday. I drove around checking on the property and saw her laying out there with a pair of eagles on her. I mean what the hell is wrong with people...smh. I reported it to the warden but nothing will ever happen. The lazy deadheads only have to watch while they're there poaching, the warden and I have to watch 24/7. These people aren't worth the air they breathe.
