Hey guys, been off the forums for a while. I'll have to get back into it because I finally have something to report. 5 Years of bow hunting finally produced my first deer with the stick and string. Its not a giant by any means but it will always be a trophy to me.
I got a lottery permit to hunt the regional park across the street from my house in the nw suburbs of the Twin Cities. 3 years of applying to get enough points to get my ticket, and it finally paid off this year. After the hunter orientation meeting 3 weeks ago my wife and I started scouting stand sites in the park to set up in the best location. Seeing very little sign and zero deer during our scouting walks was discouraging to say the least. I finally get my permit and this year the deer are scarce. Anyway I had low expectations but hopeful none the less. The controlled hunt was Friday Saturday and Sunday. I saw one doe on Friday so that gave me some positive vibes. My stand is set up about a half mile from my house. On Saturday morning, I'm in my stand and my wife sends a text "there's a buck walking up the sidewalk in front of our house". I think ok great i should have stayed in my driveway. Anyway about six hours later he shows up walking down the trail to my stand. I pull up on him and he busts me, and darts back into the brush. I can still see him and he still sees me but him being a city deer he doesn't run off. He plays peek a boo with me for about 2 minutes and comes back to the trail edge to peek around the corner. He still thinks he's hidden but his vitals are exposed and I put one through both his lungs. He ran for about 10 seconds and I hear him crash in the woods. a great feeling to finally get it done. I want get back out there asap as I still have a bonus tag to
