Okay guy, I need some advise on when to take off for hunting. I hunt in southern WI and originally I was going to take off tomorrow and Nov 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Now the weather is supposed to be warm and windy for tomorrow so I am going to change this Friday to either Nov 1st or Nov 7th. Which day do you think will be better? Thanks

I would probably lean towards Nov 7 over Nov 1st. But, it's really a crap shoot as far as knowing which day will actually be better for you. If bucks are beginning to chase doe's hard by Nov 7 it can actually make it more difficult to kill them (with arrows). I'd rather hunt whichever one of those days has more favorable weather.

Same thing. Central WI 3-4th? Or 7-8th?

I am a firm believer in one week either side of November 7th is the best time all year to kill mature bucks. Again you never know which day(s) is the best but for me it has been November 5th through the 9th with the 7th being the target day to hunt.

I choose the week leading up to the 7th... And also the week after the 7th :)

This warm weather is killing me! Now it is supposed to be warm all next week too. Now I am debating if I should cancel my days off for this week (2nd-4th) and take off all next week. Do you think that warm weather affects the timing of the rut?

Do you have options of taking half days? It would double the number of sits but not all day sits.

No, but the warmer weather will force more night time activity. If you're able to change your days until next week, that's what I would do!

November 5th has always been the best day in the field for me. I am in South Central WI as well. I sat on Saturday and saw a giant cruising at 9AM. I'm taking off tomorrow morning. 1/2 days until I start seeing some rut activity. Then I'll kick it into gear for full days off.

OK, I did some research and everything I found says that the rut comes at virtually the same time every year regardless of the weather. It has more to do with the length of the days than anything else (from what I read). That means that I will be taking off the 2nd through the 8th. It is supposed to rain/storm on the 2nd but there is a big temperature drop that I don't want to miss so I decided to hunt then. Thanks for al the great advise!
