I figure with the rain last night I may get lucky and catch a nice buck refreshing this scrape. We will see

44° southwest wind. Not my best stand but best option for this wind.

There is lots of public land. I would recommend zones 7, 8 or 10 unless you want to go to the deep southern end of the state which is where those 160' class deer are located. Too far south for me though. I hunt zone 10. WMA's, State Parks and State Forests are all free, except for your $135 non-resident license. Hunterdon County also has a great park system in zones 7,8 and 10 but you need to apply for permits and unless you are standing in line they are hard to come by and will cost another $40 per park and per season(there are 3 NJ Bow seasons Winter Jan 1-Feb 18 2017, Fall Sept 9-Oct 27 2017, Permit Oct 28-Dec 31 2017) Permit Bow requires a $56 additional permit for a buck and 2 does, I avoid it cause of the additional fee, but it is the prime of the rut. I usually go down a week in Jan or Feb depending on the weather, the first week of Fall bow in Sept and the last week of Fall bow in October. The big boys are usually cruising by then. Doing your research on line first is paramount, a summer trip to scout is advisable. Luckily my parents live in the area so I have a place to stay and butcher. That is probably the toughest part, a place to stay. Hard to butcher a deer at a hotel and $50-75 per deer butchering cost is not cost effective. Many zones are 1 buck and unlimited antlerless for Fall and Winter bow. Good luck.

I was, as well as grunting and estrus urine. Though the day I got my buck I was just sitting quietly.

That's what we're trying to figure out now, some of the logistics. i'm thinking maybe three three day weekends, when in September, one in October, and one in November.
You're definitely right, That will be the hardest part, butchering up the deer. Where on earth would we do that? We are talking about buying a older van, turning it into our hunting rig. incorporating a small Honda generator to power a small freezer. Hold our gear, and maybe a few fold down bunks.

Leave at midnight on Thursday night, hunt Friday, sleep in the van Friday night. Hunt Saturday, stay in a hotel the Saturday night.
Hunt half a day on Sunday, drive home.

That's sort of what we came up with last night. The hardest part will be butchering the deer. Like you said I don't want to pay someone to do it, too expensive, and how long would that take? I have the storing of the meat figure out.

Just had a monster walk by me. Too far to shoot though. Making rubs the whole way.

Saw 6 doe throughout the sit this morning, passed on a small doe. Spike was chasing a doe hard through the goldenrod. Don't know if the snow got them fired up? Good sit.

Just heard from my dad. He spotted the 8 from Saturday cruising at 8:20 this morning not more than 150yds from where I almost got a shot off on Saturday. I know where he's coming from and heading to, the question is whether it's daily or not. Can't hunt that stand until Saturday morning. Fingers crossed.
