it takes that long because most taxi's don't tan their own hides, they collect them, then ship them all off somewhere else to tan them, then they get shipped back at once. Now they have all the mounts to do at once. one of my local guys can tan hides to makes rugs but not mounts, I guess its a different process.
The Taxidermist I normally use is usally a 4-9 month wait. Get in before gun season and usually get it back by February, during or after gun season and you're looking at July or August. There is another guy out his way that is the best of the best. Prices are competitive but his turnaround is 2 years. People know this going in and he still gets booked every year, his work is that sought after. I'd be tempted to use him should I ever be fortunate enough to take a booner or other once in a lifetime buck.
Mine was 10 months this time and would gladly wait that long again. If they're backed up that far with work, they're probably pretty good. looks good.. that deer has a ton of mass... congrats as many others have stated, I couldnt wait a year... Im a 1 month kinda guy.. If its over a month i start getting irritated. I will say though, I am spoiled in terms of taxidermists and am very fortunate. My taxidermist doesnt do a lot of public work and does mostly deer for his competitions.....
my taxi is the same way. hes to busy with his other hobbies. but like yours, its well worth the wait for quality work. thats an awesome buck. nice job
