I never used to get any pictures of any bucks at all until around halloween. Even during the rut, they were few and far between. The changes I made to my land and tactics between 2015&2016 were: -altered stand/blind locations to minimize spooking deer - left the center of the property alone! hunt the edges, travel routes to and from -put in a 1/3 acre brassica/sorghum/clover food plot and (tilled many times to keep weed seeds out, which was the cause of failure of last year's plot) this has made all the difference! I had a buck(basket 8 with good mass) in easy range for the first time ever this year! I passed him up, which i may or may not regret later. And now I have a pretty decent semi-mature (thinking 3.5 y/o)deer that is frequenting the property. He is my target buck. On Oct. 1,I had him at the edge of shooting light at 15 yards, but brush was blocking the shot. In addition to having a target buck now, I am/was (before the lull) getting lots of pictures of multiple bucks, including one giant that I have last year's sheds from. Now to kill one! the target buck: View attachment 72068 View attachment 72069 View attachment 72070 View attachment 72073 The giant:
here's one more of the big un, a few other bucks, and the sheds we picked up last year, estimated score about 142
