Ended up seeing one of the bucks I wanted to shoot last night. I feel pretty silly as to why I didn't shoot him. I had just taken my release off (it was literally the last minute of legal light) and I hadn't seen or heard deer walking nearby. Then as I am strapping it to my bow, I hear it walking, look up and sure enough there he is. He didn't spook so hopefully I'll have another opportunity hear soon.
285 yards summarizes my night. I'm sure you'll get a shot before seasons end! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I will not get out until the weekend with my older boy's baseball practice tonight and game tomorrow night. Green light for Saturday morning - lunch, hunt. I think I will setup in the stand that gives me this viewpoint.
That reminds me of an evening hunt I had years back. I was targeting a really nice buck that I saw several times but, never close enough for a shot. Hunted the evening and was preparing to meet up with my cousin before dark so in preparation... I lowered my bow, then heard a branch snap. Here a doe come running right up within 10 yards of my tree and you guessed it...the buck chasing her. He stopped where she did, in an easy to shoot spot. Only thing I could do is watch...
Needless to say I learned a lesson last night. Hopefully I will be able to get him next time. I also forgot to mention he was 15 yards away and broadside, so it was essentially a slam dunk of a position to be in, minus my release not being on my wrist. So in the past six days I have had opportunities at 3 different bucks I have just managed to mess up. Sooner or later it will happen!
Guys - I'm starting to map out the rest of the season. Boys games are lessoning up which means more evening and morning hunts! Hey...I love my family however, it's the most wonderful time of the year!!!! Anywho. I plan on hunting tomorrow morning and check the cams before I leave. See if any show am activity and get out again on Monday morning. I will plan to fit in another hunt later that week in the evening or morning. Will see what's to come. Pre-rut will kick in soon. Billy - Killer deal on the stand. So jealous!
Drove by, saw a yardsale with hunting gear, asked how much, she said 35, I said sold. I paid the lady and off I went lol Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Wind is perfect and ready to climb up my steps when I get blown at. In an hour early. Hope I can put us some points up and back straps on the grill. Good luck fellas
Good Luck this weekend everyone! I have to take a break from hunting for 18 days or so and head to California to train some Soldiers. Looking forward to the little mini work vacation. Hope everyone can put something down while I am gone.
Fort Irwin? Hate that place. I'm at Fort Drum this weekend myself. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I am going to Camp Roberts. I am a wheeled vehicle recovery instructor for the Army National Guard. Never been to camp Roberts but I have always wanted to see that PRT of California.
We've gone through some of those courses. I'm an infantryman in a light infantry company. We did some vehicle stuff at NTC and camp Shelby MS. Good stuff. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I did as well, 2012. Do not and will not miss it. Jrtc was much much worse tho. That place is a death trap. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Quick Sunday update. Hunted Saturday morning and picked the wrong stand. Had what looked to be a shooter walk past in daylight..8am. Oh well. Can't be everywhere at once. On another positive note. Looks like the cams are starting to bring the shooters out.
Lookin good JD. Wish this weather would "chill" out. Back to the 70's again. Dripper has been refilled with buck urine consistently. Got a unique older buck
