Just started my research, looking to buy land in NC. I am not too familiar, but looking at the central to western side of the state for some solid deer and turkey land. I have read a lot about hunting with dogs, which I would like to stay away from. I like the Ashville area, but looking for any thighs on great areas to bowhunt mature deer and turkeys.?

Look around the Black Mtn and Swannanoa, NC. There are some good deer in those area. I don't care for dog hunters either. I know it is illegal for them to run dogs on someone else's land.

Look further east of Asheville. North West Corner, Rutherfordton area, and then from Siler City-Raleigh. Basically those 3 areas IMO.

New to this forum and first year bow hunting. I've got 4 locations throughout wilkes and Surry county and one in stokes county. I live in King but have a Father in law who is def land wealthy lol I couldn't be more excited. I bought myself my bow a little before Xmas last year and have spent the whole year till this point developing myself as a shooter. Been scouting each location for the past 2 months. Counting the seconds till opening day!!!!

One more week guys, pulled the cameras last week and had some nice bucks on them, really hoping to have a good opening morning, sitting in a transition area, right between the standing corn and the timber, its an overgrown meadow with a lot of small trees in there. Good luck to all, the wait will soon be over!!!

Spent yesterday getting my stands ready, saw lots of signs of activity and even a few scrapes. Pulled my camera and checked the card, got several decent bucks on this site. I'm ready for opening morning, not going back in there until then.

Doe down opening morning 5 minutes after daylight. Was loaded up and back home before 8am. What an awesome way to start the season! Saturday night I saw 5 different bucks including one shooter. He just wouldn't give me those last 20-30 yrds to get in range. Sat on some public land last night and saw 9 deer including 2 small bucks. Best start to the season I have ever had! Good luck this year everyone!

I let a couple of does walk Sunday morning, haven't seen anything since. I have set a camera back up to check and see if they're moving at night, before I pulled it I was seeing plenty of deer but now it's quiet.
My second place I hunt I had to move my stand, the guy that owns the place cut some trees after I put it up and messed me up. I think I found a better place anyway.

I quit seeing the small bucks on my trailcams, and finally figured out why. I have a NICE 8-pointer that showed up out of nowhere when I checked it this week. Now just to figure out how to get him.

Great opportunities in the Gamelands North and South of Raleigh as well as city Limits. The way the rules are written, Archery equipment provides some advantages. Also there are lots of archery only areas. However, Wake county is bordered by counties that are considered Central region whereas as Raleigh and Wake are eastern. That means just just North, South and West of the county lines and you have an extra Month of hunting without rifles or dogs.
