Just wondering what cover scent everyone is using this year? Trying something new? Still using the ol' tried and true? Post up what you're using and why you're using it. This may give some insight to new hunters who may not know or never used it before. I'm personally gonna try Deer Dander this year. Just for something new.
The only "cover scent" I use would be fresh earth. I'll sometimes use natural cover scents by rubbing evergreen needles all over me and my gear. Other than that I try to use the "scent free" approach.
I try to wash everything in scent free, then I get a good fire going with leaves and some pine needles for smoke. That's my cover scent-just like what blows through the country every cool day of the year.
I use our cover scents, food based ones (vanilla and butternut). We donate them to Heroes Hunt for Veterans every year and they stick a lot of deer using them. A lot of 2 man in a ground blind set ups, wheel chairs, etc. Provide good coverage over what any scent eliminators miss. They had one doe even poke her head into the blind last year. I started using deer dander last year and love it! I use a combination of scent killer on all my clothes and then a little bit of the deer dander on my rubber boots. Have yet to be winded since I started using the combination.
I like the cover scent of whiskey and cheap hookers. Doesn't work for crap, but it sure is fun to apply.
My recommendation is use scent free stuff and use the wind. If you're hunting mature whitetails then maybe spend money on cover scent
use oak or hickory or mesquite........leaves is a danger smell for deer, oak is what people burn it fireplaces(normal smell) mesquite or hickory are used for cooking( another normal smell)...just my 2 cents
