A few days late but here ya go. Opening day was Saturday. I was in the stand 10 hours total. Finally at 6:45 pm I see them. Right where I wanted them to come down at. I had ranged that are on out off and on all day. I draw my bow and wait for the shot. She (I'll get to that) turned and gave me a good shot, I took it. All 4 deer ran, the last was teasing me hanging out at 30 yards. I thought I heard the crash. Dad came out to help me find/dress/haul her back to the truck. We walk the area I could share she went down, nothing. Dad says we should start at the beginning of the blood trail. I say it's easier to go this way, my trail to my stand. Bam! There she was. Laid down right in the middle of the trail. I holler for dad and he comes over. She was a he. (Now for my excuses, right) I am a meat hunter, I try not to shoot babies. We rely greatly on venison in my house. Virginia does not care if you shoot buck or does where I live/hunt. Wasn't expecting a buck in a group of four. Ok back to it. Guts were hanging out the exit, my shot was not as broadside as I thought. The entrance was perfect (for a broadside shot) I did cut 1 lung, the heart, liver and unfortunately the intestine, oh and a little nick to the stomach. That smelled awesome. 70lb 3 pt at 25 yards brought home 24.63lbs of meet to go in the freezer. Oh and one roast on the smoker for dinner last night. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
You cannot eat antlers - and when you are out there to fill the freezer - you do just that. Congrats.
congrats on the deer. I've done the same, thought I was shooting a doe, was a spike with only 1 antler. It was just barely legal shooting hours and I didn't see the antler, blended in with the ears.
