What's the deer thought process behind rain? They are more active before and after right? Do they usually try to hunker down during a rain storm?
I was out in hard on and off pouring rain Saturday and Sunday and saw 14 deer....the majority came out in the field during the hardest rain...they will move in rain Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
Would you suggest planning your hunt around a rain though? My situation is that my deer are super nocturnal right now so I'm trying my best to pattern what might get them to start moving at day time so I don't waste days in the stand when I could be planning my hunts around the weather. Ya know what I mean?
I have always found it best to be in the stand as soon as a heavy shower finishes. Not that they wont move in a downpour, but the best movement for us always seems to be when the rain starts to slack off
My late grandfather used to tell me this every time I complained about the weather while in a tree, "Deer can't go inside, and you can shoot them if you do." He passed last September, I smile every time i feel a sprinkle in the woods.
If it sprinkled I'm going out. But if it's a hard rain im not going out till the rain calms down. I don't think it's a good idea deer hunting in the rain. It's blood tracking that bothers me, because the rain washes away the blood. Tracking becomes harder
After a rain or light snow.....they will come to freshen up their scrapes. Be there when they do. Bad idea to bow hunt in a hard or constant rain. You can not blood trail because there is no blood to trail, it's washed away. Same goes for a heavy snow. In my opinion
