I got my doe submitted. I could use some help on "how to take a selfie" Im not real good at it as you could see. Lol
Nice job on the doe Bryan! I'm heading back up to some new public property this weekend hoping to do the same. The area looks really good on the maps, right between what looks like bedding and a corn field that was half taken down a couple weeks ago. I'm hoping it's not too burned out from other hunters quite yet.
Update Time: Well fellas, the season is turning out pretty tough so far. That's was the northwoods does to you. I've seen 2 deer so far and I passed on them because we just don't have a lot of does in this area. I will be trying out a better piece of property that has plenty of does. This Thursday and Friday I have vacation. So from Thursday to Sunday I'll be hunting. I think the weather will cooperate. If for some reason I need a change of scenery I will try out my new spot this Saturday. I'm still going for broke for BDay. If another shooter passes through I'll make a split decision and put an arrow through him. Keep at it gentleman! Best is yet to come!
Well I finally saw my first deer of the year while on stand Friday night! Just a doe and fawn walking through too much brush for a shot, but glad I was able to see something. I'll be heading back up Wednesday night and will be hunting until Sunday night, hoping to have timed it perfectly. We're starting to see lots of scrapes opening up, but the cameras are still saying most of the activity is at night.
For some of the team that hasn't heard, I shot a seven pointer on Saturday. I'll get it posted on the thread once photobucket becomes available so I have pictures. He ended up scoring 76 3/8.
Hey guys, I've been MIA darn near this whole time!! My computer wouldn't allow me to open up the forums section, second, life has been one heck of a roller coaster!! I was out Saturday and a doe busted my wind but I'll be getting out Friday. There is still a lot of corn in the area and all the big bucks that were on camera are still "hiding"!! Hopefully I'll see something!!!
Update from my long weekend hunt: I didn't see more than a glimpse of a few deer on Thursday and Friday and saw no sign that the rut was anywhere close to starting, no response to any calls and no deer really moving at all. Then the action picked up a little bit Saturday morning, I sprayed out some doe pee on my walk in and at about 9 had this nice 2.5 year old buck come in following that scent. Would have given me a nice 10 yard shot and would have been my biggest buck with a bow, but I decided to let him walk...I'll probably regret that decision later haha. Then Saturday night I heard a deer walking and hit my can call a couple times and in comes a real nice 1.5 year old 8 pointer looking for the doe...let him walk too. Now on Sunday morning right away at shooting light I had what I'm guessing was the same 1.5 year old 8 come walking in behind me at the same stand I saw the 2.5 year old the day before. Around 9:30 that morning my dad let me know he just had two different 1.5 year olds walk within 15 yards of him. So it seemed like the action was really starting to pick up the last couple days, and I'm hoping that continues because I go back up Wednesday night thru Sunday again...I'm just hoping the farmers have finally cut all the corn down around us! Here's the 2.5 year old I passed And this is a picture that will haunt me forever...I was about 250 yards away at the time he walked through...my stand is less than 20 yards from that camera
I usually let does walk because we don't need more than 1 deer. I have a taker now for a friend so my next goal is to get one with the recurve.
Great looking buck kennyg! I'm hunting in central Wisconsin, Marquette County, where are you hunting?
