Well guys, my mistake on Sunday just came back to haunt me. I had what would have been my biggest buck to date come in this morning. I haven't ever really shot a big buck, and this guy was no record setter, but it would have been nice to have had a choice. He was a 2 1/2 year old 8 pt that would have probably gone between 95 and 110. He came in at 15 yards, stood directly under my stand and sniffed my climbing sticks, and then just mozied off without a care in the world. It was a great morning though, so I'm not going to complain too much.
When my son did hunter's ed we got drawn for a special muzzle loader hunt on a farm the state of Nebraska owned. They had double ladder stands set up for us. That was a lot of fun. Where we normally hunted I just had 2 hang on stands set up about 50 yards apart because I had to be within visual range and within earshot until he turned 16.
Well, I am giving up on deer hunting for now. I am swamped at work because I put off grading so I could go hunting. Got to get caught up cuz after school on Wed. I am going elk hunting. I took Thursday and Friday as personal days. Maybe if I get a spike elk Fritz will let me enter it as my buck, since I had to burn my buck tag on that mule deer doe. Not sure what the weather is going to be doing, but they just bumped up our high school regional golf tournament a day because the forecast in north east MT is for snow on Friday.
BOUGHT 2 NEW SUMMIT VIPER CLIMBERS, last year I had one old climber and we stayed close to the two man ladder stand, I put him in the ladder stand and I in the old climber. limited our hunting so this year I bought two new climbers so we can go anywhere on the 300 acres. our time was limited due to football, same as this year but we can still go other places when the wind is wrong at the two man ladder stand. he is a great kid (young man) (16)
Sorry for not posting much, I have been trying to work as much as I can now and get stuff done before season comes Oct. 1st. But for an update I have a good 9 point running with a buck I haven't seen before but from the shadows on the trail camera he looks massive. I have a smaller 8 hitting a scrape around my stand but mostly nocturnal. on the brighter side, I am noticing does bedding within 50 yds of both of my stands so fingers crossed for the rut.
