Yeah Logman, I have a 7 month old. Things are crazy to say the least. But my daughter loves being outside much more than being inside, so hopefully in a few years I have a hunting buddy. I checked one of my cameras today and have a few nice bucks so I am extra excited that the season starts 3 weeks from today.

Been in the tree all weekend. Have seen a few small deer but no shooters. Thing are liable to change tonight. Setup on a thicket edge and oak flat edge. I'm confident with this weather front. Moons rising fast high front just moved through last night. Did I mention it's 15 degrees cooler today than yesterday.

No. I didn't have time to see if it was season or not.

Time is the last thing I've had for prep work this summer but was able to get out in the rain Saturday and hang my last set. First time in there since april and it's covered up with sign. Trail cut down the edge of the beans, rubs and scrapes all over. Hung a cell camera while I was in there so will see what is moving around there. Camera pull was slow due to weeds growing up and deer starting to take easier alternate routes. Only had one decent 8 and my big 9 show up at night time. Just one more day of work then off to Colorado for 10 days to fill the long off season void

Got two of the bigger boys at new place on cam...bad news is I hit my left thumb with handsaw hanging a set Saturday.

Barely missed tendon so lucky! 7 stitches and split...no shooting or work for a bit unfortunately.

Dang Ty! Could have been worse I suppose.

Saturday is Opener. I'll try and get out Sat or Sunday night. Then Weds I head to IL to meet up with Todd, then off to Colorado to see if he can get a elk down for BHOD.

Here's a sneak peak at my hitlist for this year:

#1 - Evander. He showed up early last October and hung around well through November. He's a dream buck for me and most likely to be seen in my favorite stand in the outlet of our lake.

#2 - Walter. he also hung around all November and kept showing up by trees that I decided against sitting in for that day. My dad got a pick of him mid June and he had a great start this year. I'll most likely cross paths with him along on of the new clearcuts in my area.

#3 - Spivey. A tall narrow 8pt that I had a couple encounters with last year. He was the most visible of my hitlisters and I probably have the highest chance of seeing him this year.

I have a few others that I got on cam last year, but not enough to make me want to add them to the list. I'm really excited for this season and can't wait to finally break the Buckless Curse!

IMG_0944.jpg Initially this buck was thought to be above the 200" mark (during velvet). He isn't even close to it. He is the biggest on the farm at around 180.

IMG_0945.jpg This is a 4 year old which is off limits to arrows and bullets on this particular farm.

Both these bucks are on the same farm. I am hoping in a couple years when I can get back there one or both will still be around.

Well fellas I'm beginning to get really antsy...I think the thumb issue has me itching to do something. Got a stand to adjust and another to finalize at the new property (supposed to get done that day I hurt myself....then it's let the property set. We're gonna try to hunt that place as little and low pressure as possible this year as we learn all about it and deer use during the season.

Despite thumb issue I think I'm gonna go move a cam and possibly hang a stand (think I can) at the swamp property that is in the open not an intrusive spot and a spot I know I can take my time (key with thumb wrapped) without worrying about scent right now....although thinking I'll wait till a rain happens.

Right now all the bucks we have on cam really active is at the New Property but the Swamp is the big buck mecca it seems each year and I fully expect it to pick up if it hasn't already on cam.

I can't hunt this particular farm for another 2 years as it is a points state. It takes at least 3 years for a no resident to get a tag. I hunted it last year and actually watched the 4 year old (3 year old last year). The landowner has several sets of sheds from last year that are over 150." While I have some nice deer on camera in WI on camera it really puts into context how good other states have it compared to WI. I will do what I can to shoot a 150" in WI this season or I will eat my buck tag. This weekend starts the quest.

I went to the Dr the other day. They are going to give me epidural injection. I have been shooting my bow this week. I just know about setting in a tree stand for hours, but I'm gonna try it. My opener is next weekend.
