Well the whole family got out to shoot tonight. It was amazing to have all 5 kid and my wife shooting bows. Makes me happy! What a life!
Anybody ever set up on swamp edges? We have a couple swamps in the area and I was thinking about setting up on one for early season. My only problem is the terrain is very hilly in my area so It is hard to find a tree that isn't eye level for the deer in some other area where they may come from.
Nope, not other than running a few cams yesterday. I have some more to run today if I get around to it. Bucks are mostly shed here now and my #1 buck with a drop tine is clean.
Been busy building a house and chasing kids around to sports events. Getting ready for my New Mexico elk trip next week. Leaving the 13th for 10 days in Unit 9 archery. Drew a bull tag so wish me luck. Been shooting a lot and grouping great out to 60 yards. Really hoping I don't have to shoot that far though. Got out last week and checked my cameras and had a couple of shooters on my property. I'll post some pics later. Hope everyone else has found a good one to chase this fall.
Went a few years ago on an early season archery hunt but the unit we drew wasn't that great at that time of the year. It was more of a wintering area so we didn't see many elk and I was never able to connect. This time the unit is really a preferred unit to draw and the elk are there. I hope to get a good opportunity this time.
Sounds like a blast! I would love to go out for elk one day, just not sure what state. We can hunt elk in MI but you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than you do drawing an MI elk tag.
Best buck so far this year, hopefully he sticks around. Got two ladder stands up this weekend and trimmed some more shooting lanes even though it was raining the whole time. Wanted to set my lone wolf stand up in a prime spot but my father ran over one of my climbing stick straps accidentally and shredded it, time for replacements! oh well...only 3 weeks left!
Wish I had some bucks without velvet on cam, always hard to determine shrink rate for me. What's cool is I think the buck above is an offspring from my 2014 buck.
Finally god a buck on camera. The food plot has lots of weeds but the does and fawns have been hitting it steady. Picture is a bit blurry but looks like he is shedding velvet. Smaller bucks have shed already.
Weeds in a plot don't hurt that much. Often times what we consider a weed is still browsed on by deer anyway.
Ha my checked my cams in a while, but good news is I will be hunting this weekend for the youth hunt with my bow. I'll just be sitting in a observation stand with a huge crp field in front of me, don't have high hopes of shooting one but I also don't want to get to carried away this early.
Well guys, I have been practicing at 40 yards and finding myself dropping my arm every time. Any points other than don't drop your arm?
Proper form and follow through, don't try to see the arrow hit the target, aim, squeeze and let the arrow hit the target don't try to aim it in flight and watch it. It'll be easier to not drop your arm.
