Anyone's season open up yet? We have 2 weeks left before ours opens. I've never made an opening day sit, but probably will this year. Thanks to thermocells
North Dakota's season has opened, once I get back from my trip down here in MO I plan on sitting over the weekend. Temps are 60's for highs and 40's for lows
I was able to get out a couple times last weekend. High's in the 90's and wind wasn't favorable for most of my stands so I was only looking for a big buck out of 1 stand for that wind. Passed on 4 doe and a couple fawns. 2 smaller bucks came by out of range. This weekend it is cooling down and has a more favorable wind. When we came into our land I saw 30 deer out in the alfalfa right next to a new stand I put up so if I get the right wind I should be looking good. I did't have the bino's out so I couldn't tell if any were larger bucks. It was great to be in the stand again.
Made it out to the property this weekend and did some final prep work before the season opens here in a couple weeks. Got all of our lifelines out, made sure all the straps were in good condition, and did a little last minute lane clearing. Also checked the cams and got a good buck that's been coming through quite a bit that is definitely one I'm after this year. I'll post pics tonight when I get back home, we've also got quite a few decent 2.5 year olds running around and a few big ones that have only popped up a few times. Can't wait for the season to start, I've got quite a few long weekends ahead of me this fall! Good luck to everyone who has started the season already, hopefully you have a safe and successful season!
I'm on a new property this year as of 3 weeks ago. Not an ideal situation as I still have one stand to get up with two weeks to go to the opener. I have 3 cameras out and have been getting a decent amount of deer on cam, so I'm optimistic. However, I don't have any bucks larger than a 6 on cam yet. Hopefully I'm just missing them. I got a small food plot in two weeks ago and it is coming in nicely. I can bait here as well. Getting anxious to see something sizeable to make me feel better about this property.
Here are some pics from the latest trip up to the property with the best buck on camera so far, and the one I'll be chasing this year. And I'm pretty sure this is him last year (what do you guys think?) Nice looking 9 pointer...would be tempting since it would be my best bow buck. Waiting to see if a couple of the big ones we had on cam last year...and we haven't heard that anyone shot them last year.
Update on BDay. He shed his velvet. I didn't get a good pic of him because a damn bear moved my camera. So far he's the only shooter I have on camera. The cabin owner told me that guys to the north of us have some studs on camera. They will eventually expand their territories once they change their patterns.
Saw my number one target buck last night checking cameras. he has shed his velvet...he's big...scary big
If your target buck is checking cameras, you'll never get him Sorry I've been quiet, guys...new job... My season starts October 1st and I cannot wait! You guys look like you have some good ones! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Checked a food plot...looks good for 3 weeks old and very little rain Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The season is almost here now...I'll be heading up to our property after work tomorrow and will be checking cams and doing a little last minute scouting Saturday morning on some new public ground, and then I'll be sitting in a tree Saturday night. Can't wait to be back out there. Good luck to all the other hunters who will be heading out this weekend...be safe and shoot straight!
