As we head out to scout or set up cameras it's good to remember Mr. Buzz. If you live in snake country watch your step! Stumbled into a nest of rattlesnakes - YouTube
I just about stepped on one of those little nasties in Colorado this month, I love how all the locals say "you'll never see one, haven't seen one in the 15 years I've lived here yadda yadda" Didn't help me much XD
I recently invested in a pair of Lacrosse snake boots. I figure I've been pushing my luck turkey hunting in the spring just east of Sweetwater.
I spent the past few years as a trail coordinator so I spend a lot of time in the woods and I'd never seen a rattler until last year. Didn't look so big coiled up. Couldn't believe my eyes as it slithered away.
We have more copperheads here than rattlers, but they're still nasty little SOB's, especially when you step on one. I've never been bitten and don't want to be, and it worries me walking around in the dark early in the season. I just hope if I step on one it hits my boots instead of up high.
My aunt thinks she was bitten by a copperhead last year. Never actually saw it (got her when she was poking around while gardening) but they've killed a bunch of them. I think she ended up with three vials of antivenin. Not fun. When I was a kid a number of us were playing with the coolest worms at my uncle's place in the Ozarks. Turns out they were baby copperheads. :D
