I use a summit as well. There are a couple good videos on YouTube where guys go over some modifications they've made on their summit to make them easier to use and a little more comfortable.
Thanks for asking this I'm in the same boat...I have dozens of ladder stands and hang on stands, was wondering if I sold a few of them and bought a nice climber if I would be Happy...I personally hate putting up a hang on stand. But they are nice for getting around the trees with many branches! Someone tell me if it's worth getting a climber! Thanks
Ya definitely a good thread. Alot of people are looking for new climbers. Myself included. The summits are really nice and there pretty much all the same price. Just depends on what company you wanna go with. I'm gonna go bass pro and cabelas and check them out
As I had said, this is first year with one so I haven't hunted it yet but the practicing I have been doing with it, I like it thus far. I mainly switched to a climber because I was using a ladderstand and when you want to move it, it ain't fun. Most of the time when it was moved, it needed to be moved again. I wanted the option to be totally mobile. I hunt timber and I have no shortage of straight trees on the property so I didn't think I needed to get the hang on.
I have used climbers almost exclusively for 22 years now. I put up a few hang ons now and then and have done a few hang and hunts but still prefer the climber. I live in a place where there are lots of strait trees no matter where I go. I have used almost every climber known to man. The last few years I have used Lonewolf sit and climb, hand climber, and wide sit and climb stands. The stands are top notch for walking a long way or sitting just a few hours. If you plan on sitting 6 to 8 hours or more do yourself a favor and buy yourself a summit Viper or a tree walker. Some say they can sit in a Lonewolf for long periods of time but I cannot. It kills my back. As I get older I am still in good shape but comfort means more to me than compact when carrying. You are sitting in a stand longer than you are carrying it. Why not sit in comfort and enjoy your hunt. That is just my two cents Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't know if you van still.find them but I love my summit specialist. Mesh hammock style seat easy to stand slowly and quietly when that deer comes in with you unprepared
I have done many dark to dark hunts (12 hours) with my LW sit and climb, including in Alberta where it's quite cold, and have no issues. I have to mention I'm 6' and only 160lbs, so that may help. I don't have any back issues, but I will stand to stretch every couple hours.
I just bought a summit viper this year after using a api for 15 plus years and I have to say that the new summit vipers are the most comfortable and most stable climbing stand I have ever used...I like the ideal of a climber because I can be very mobile
XOP Enforcer is nice too. Get some Molle straps off EBay or Amazon and you are good to go. Same stand as a Lone Wolf but 2/3 the price!
This is why I purchased the Summit Cobra. I had the switchblade prior to the Cobra (which was stolen unfortunately). But the Cobra is lighter and is open in the front which makes it more convenient if you're hunting with a bow. Same platform, same seat just doesn't have the front bar. Love that stand.
I'm actually surprised with all the bow hunters that use summits went with viper rather than the Cobra or open shot because they don't have the front bars on them.
Summit titan. I'm a bigger guy - 6'4, 300lbs. I didn't want to risk it but I also wanted to be comfortable and safe with my first climber. It really is like a sofa in a tree. Just make sure to get a summit foot rest and hme bow hanger - the hme is the perfect fit for the seat section
I have a summit viper now but my next one will be an open front climber for that exact reason. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
