The deer is too young to know if he will keep that narrow spread. He needs one more year to see if he has potential. Not all 2 or 3 year olds score 130" like they do in Iowa.

I also agree with shooting him
Changes nothing for you. He bread a doe or two last year I bet. Plus unless you own about 1,000 acres and he is living right in the middle of it you have even less control.

Height can pay off as well. 2011 shot a 178 with only a 15 inch spread. See my profile pic. He is to young to make a determination on spread 3-4 years down the road. No reason to shoot. JMO

I agree, that buck is far too young to have any clue what his potential is. He's symmetrical and clean at that age that tells me he is good enough to pass and see how he progresses. Besides tall narrow racks can be awesome if they put on the inches of antler. Spread is just one measurement. I have a 168" ten point main frame with a 14" spread on the wall. He still had really long main beams and a lot of scorable trash and long tines. He's one of the coolest looking deer on my wall. Scored nearly exactly the same as one next to him with a 21" spread and a 7.5" drop tine.

I never take a young buck even if I think he won't amount to anything. You just never know...

That bucks an easy pass. He slips away a couple years and comes back a 5 year old 140 what does it hurt. Not a thing. Unless you have a very controlled environment I think trying to cull bucks based on future unknowns is mistake.

Let that buck go for a couple years, you must have bigger in your area.

I would pass him, but that is up to you. Just remember that the rack genetics don't just come from the buck but also the does, so who knows what his offspring will look like. Give him a chance to reach maturity and see what he turns in to. You may be surprised. Good luck if you decide to hunt him.
