Anyone on here ever use raffia type grasses on layout blinds?

We switch from peas to wheat to silage to pasture so much in the early season that I was contemplating getting some raffia grass in green for pasture/grass type hunts to save time stubbling when there usually isn't a lot to work with in the first place.

I used it on my boat blind a few years ago. Looked really good. Only issue I had was when it got wet it sucked. You may not have that problem with a layout though.

Shouldn't. Been reading a lot of reviews lately and looks like Avery Killerweed is really time consuming putting on. I'm in the market for some for the exact opposite reason. I think some come in bunches that you can clip right on but not sure which brand does that. May get some bulk and make my own bunches with close pins.

This is what I was leaning towards so far.

Bought a 18' Lund Alaskan this spring, will be quite an upgrade from the 14' we previously had to hunt eiders out of! Also picked up 30 of the Homer seaduck bodies and eider heads, currently restle coating them and getting ready for paint!

    Dang boys I'm ready!
My now 13 month old pup is looking pretty dang good. We run some HRC started tests this spring and I took her to a club training day and she run some seasoned test type setups. I've also been running her on live birds under gun fire. She's ready.
Doing our usual ND trip and we got drawn to hunt SD so we're spending 3 weeks on the prairie if all goes well. Got another hunt planned in MS that we didn't get to last year. I also got invited join a different club. It's right next to a refuge and these guys kill around 800 birds a year. Super excited about that.
Been burning some powder once a week at the skeet range to keep my shooting sharp.
    I'm ready.

Buy it in bulk, don't buy name brand like avery you'll pay to much. Google raffia grass you'll see all kinds.
As long as it's kept dry it's fine but as mentioned it sucks when it gets wet. With that said it's still on all my layout blknds, dog blinds and layout boats. I use it as a base and use local vegetation to fill it out.

The tanglefree from Roger's is the cheapest I can find, even bulk options. How many pounds per layout do you use per blind approximately?

On that same note, I was looking at buying hula skirts or raffia table skirts and using those? Much cheaper option and I assume it would have the same effect? You can buy green otherwise I would dye it to match a few different grass colors.

Its been a while since I did my blinds and I just don't remember how much it took. Guessing....3-4 pounds.
    I don't see why that won't work,raffia is raffia.
Check wing supply for it to, I got an email saying they were having a sale on it but haven't checked it out.

Edit....it's not wing supply it's tanglefree that is having a sale on raffia grass but it doesn't look like much of a deal.

Small grain is starting to get cut here. Earlier than most years so hopefully I'll get some pigeon hunts in before geese show up.

The dumb azzs in Ky moved early goose BACK two weeks. By that time every corn field in the country is cut and the geese are scattered all over creation. Idiots! I thought the purpose was to kill some geese. The only good thing about it is now wood duck/teal and goose run together....

Anyone plan on getting some early season practice on Doves? This is where I'll be opening day. Can't wait!

Normally dove opens up the same day as early goose season at noon. I try to go out that evening.

I'm always torn. I will do one or the other and switch it up the next couple days but always scout and play by ear. This is my buddies new property. He planted a couple acres of sunflowers and is pretty pumped about it so I'll go ahead and set it in stone on Sept 1st. Plus I only get a couple good dove shoots then it'll switch to Geese and Teal till bow opener!

I've quit messing with sunflowers, I can't keep the deer out of them.
