Hey guys been thinking about switching to a thumb release. Dont want to drop a couple hundred $$ on one till I know if I like them. Has anyone used the tru fire C4 release?
I have not tried the Tru Fire C4, but I do have the four finger HotShot Thumb release and I love it. Hot Shot Vapor Release (Camo) This is the one I have, they also make a solid colored one.
I switched to a thumb release last year after 30 years with a wrist caliper release and should have done it many years ago. I tried 4 different 4 finger releases and ended up purchasing the Spot Hogg Whipper Snapper and love it. I paid $120 brand new for the first one and then bought a used back up that looks new for $65 on AT. My groups have improved at longer distances and I love not having that release dangling from my wrist while in the stand.
This has peaked my curiosity as well. I'm thinking of going to my local shop and see if they have one I could try just to see how it feels first. I'd imagine most shops have at least one laying around someone could try. Always stinks spending money to try something you're not sure you'll like.
Hot Shot Vapor, my daughter just swapped to using mine. Which means I need to get another one. Works great..
Look for a used Carter. Much better than most other companies n you'll own a good release. Don't go cheap. Remember you'll prob have to re set up bow somewhat
I have the Hot Shot Vapor but never got use to the torque it put on the string - a 360' swivel head is best. Tried a bunch of cheaper ones(sub $150) my favorite is the BossX.
Hot shot vapor looked good, but I'm not a fan of the non swivel head ! I don't know if it matters much, but I not wanting to try right now.
I switched to a thumb release and am currently shooting a Truball Max Hunter 3 (that's what I switched from a wrist and haven't tried anything else). Shooting better than I have in a long time. Cost is about $80.
Try going to a local shop and see if they have any you can shoot. I ended up with the hardcore 4. It was really nice, but I could never get over the mental hump of not having the release strapped to my wrist while hunting. To me, it was just more fail-proof. If you can't, go on ebay or some other bow forum that has a lot of members selling stuff, and try to pick up a cheap, but good, one (a few years old good one).
I looked into going thumb release for quite some time now...however something I like about constantly having the release attached to me and no risk of dropping it to the ground ever. However, having it attached to the loop and not having to look down even if for a second can be crucial benefit.
I have never missed a chance at a deer because I looked down to hook my release on. Heck even in my trad days I often looked down to make sure I had my fingers on the string how I liked them, still killed deer. But go for it, you might find you shoot better with that style of release, lots of folks do. I just could never get used to them.
^This!!! I shoot a Carter Chocolate Lite and love it, great quality release and worth every penny! Will be picking up a Chocolate Addiction soon as well. The Carters have felt better to me than most other releases out and when I was in your shoes I shot a lot of different ones to see for myself on which I would be happy with.
So I am going to try to stop at the local shop tomorrow and see if they have any I can try. Thanks for all the info guys.
