So I have had my Mathews Halon 6 since January, shoot every week. Last night we shot a techno course and I wasn't paying attention, and dry fired. First time in 37 years. I'm an idiot and it's my own fault. The shop placed the string back on but it needs to be replaced. Can anyone tell me my next step? Obviously a new string but anything else? Thank you.

Have the Archery shop do a thorough evaluation of the bow. Check for damage to the limbs, cracks and so forth. Check the cams and check for cam lean. As long as they give it the OK, you are good.

For sure have a "GOOD" shop check it out.

A bent cam or a cracked limb can quickly lead to many more serious issues besides the string and cable issue.

True. But on the flip side, you could be fine. I've not witnessed a parallel limb bow being dry fired, so I have no clue how different the stresses are. I sold a Ben Pearson bow to a guy back in the mid 90's that had been painted. I don't recall which model for sure, but I believe it was a 2300. It was their first compound with recurve limbs. He didn't like the paint job, so he hung it on his porch with a rope around the grip. Dry fired it over 100 times before it finally broke. Maybe you'll be ok

I have witnessed a parallel limb bow being dry fired and some of the issues weren't detected by the naked eye. Don't take a chance and mess up your bow any more than it is already messed up.

Listen to him, he's old and wise (mostly just old). I wasn't suggesting not getting it checked out. By all means do. I was just giving you hope that it's OK.

Don't listen to hh. He's old and has mostly lost his mind but we try and humor him and let him post on some of these websites to keep him from driving his family totally nuts!!!!!

Thanks guys. Once he reset the string I didn't shoot anymore. I noticed a little plastic piece broke off, plastic washer in a can screw. I'm going to bring it back where I bought it, just wasn't sure if the bow would be a total loss

Absolutely worst case you would need new limbs, cams, pins, shims and strings. I doubt that it went that far but if you shoot it now and it isn't alright................. well it could get to where you need everything. Best of luck to you.
