Aussie John isn't going to make it. He will be in the states later in the fall to hunt deer with his daughter!

It would definitely be interesting being a flatlander and driving my semi in the mountains. I'd like to fly out for a couple days but not sure if I can swing that since my wife has me on a budget dare I say. September is a ways a way so we will see.

The scenery itself is worth the trip...

...these are from the first day of my second trip out...

First evening after setting up camp

First morning / First hunt...and to top it off we heard our first couple bugles just moments later...snow capped mountains, bugles...it's like heaven to me

You can make out the "Holy Cross" from the small snow storm...rare to see it after the regular winter/spring snows melt.

And we also experienced 80 degrees that same week...gotta love CO weather:)

This thread has been too quiet...

Been whipping my old body into shape and using this trip to buy more toys, uh, gear.

I'm starting to think about my travel planing...

At one point a couple folks (I forgot who) from VA and another from AL said they were interested. Thought I'd check as we're really 4 months out...

Anybody else in the Southeast considering this trip? If so, and you're considering driving, pm me if you'd be interested in splitting the drive/costs.

    Thanks
    Bill

I was just thinking about how quiet it got here. I'm really slacking on working out (not good at all). Luckily I have a physical job that keeps me in decent shape.

Word is, the CDP&W folks are adding 100 more deer tags to the quota for our area. If so, I imagine anyone who applied for a mule deer tag will draw...

This thread is dying guys. Is no one excited about this camp? It's a great opportunity to get your feet wet with elk hunting! In exactly 4 months I will be in Colorado and can't wait! Getting my gear list scratched off and almost done buying things! I should be decked out for a long time!

Oh, hell no. When I'm not working, I'm sleeping or trying to sneak in some training...

Atta boy! I'm pumped. I need to continue practicing my bugles and working out. I'm in decent shape but want to be in better shape!

With a lot of kid & school commitments wrapping up this week...next week starts an un-official summer time in my mind. I have been shooting just a little but plan to get back to it daily next week (most days is just one quick arrow in my garage).
Working out has went surprisingly well this spring with how busy life has been - I try to do something at least 5 days/week, most times it's just 30 minutes but I aim for 1 long run each weekend when possible.

I'm sure a few of my buddies that have gone in the past with me will be going again - we'll all start messaging each soon during the summer excitement and work outs to motivate each other...

...I just need to hear that one bugle to go running after...

Good deal Matt! Working out hasn't been going well for me. Got to do better. Right now I'm suffering from shin splints. Never had this happen before and I wish I hadn't quit running when I quit playing soccer.

I do ask for everyone's prayers tho. I was informed by Dave (Bails) that he will be carrying a 357 magnum. Nothing and no one will be safe. I'll do my best to give him a crash course in gun safety and how to operate it. Haha

Sorry I'm not fully familiar with y'alls sense of humor and the emoji doesn't show on my phone...Is there good reason (e.g. predators, crackheads, etc) to bring a sidearm or is it simply 'because I can'...?

Bears but at this camp not really needed. I carried mine for one day and ditched it. Where Dave and I are going we will be packing camp everyday so we will have one even though it's probably not needed.
