In Kentucky? Haven't been yet. Just got back in the US last night. 5 have been killed on the farm I hunt on since Saturday. One weighed 26 pounds. Hopefully I'll get out this weekend.
We don't open for another week and a half here in PA. I have two days scheduled off and Saturday's to hunt. I hope to get out a few times. They were already hammering and strutting locally two weeks ago.
Yes. I had it pointed at the decoys to try and get a 2nd angle of the shot from outside the blind. Unfortunately I forgot to switch it from time lapse mode to video mode when I got in the blind so it didn't work. I have a photo of the birds coming into the decoys, then the next one he's laying dead with his buddy pouncing on him. Better luck next time I guess.
We were testing our new fletching again today so while we had bows in hand we just shoo'd them out of the back yard so they could go crap some place else. Smelly field carp are everywhere.
Killed this one last week. I have had a bunch of opportunities at Jakes. Could have killed a great bird this morning that slipped in quietly behind me but couldn't get it on film so decided not to shoot. I've got some great film this spring. It's been awesome so far. I've been shotgunning so far but let me tell you, self filming these jokers without a pop up blind is TOUGH! I've started using a stake blind and that helps tremendously. 22lbs 10.5" beard 1 3/8" spur 3/4" broken off spur I should have an awesome spring film edited up in a month or so. PA doesn't open until this coming Saturday. I will be out with my bow as always. Congrats to everybody that has filled a tag!
I have hunted 9 straight days. I've seen 5 birds hit the ground, and should have been 3 more. Went with my elk guide buddy in Eastern Ky Sun-Wed. We had 1 bird in my lap that spooked before I could get a clear shot. Had two birds in his lap that he couldn't get his eye focused in time to get the shot off. He had brain surgery a year ago, and can't control his right eye. He can't even close it. He's left handed, right eye dominant, so shooting left handed and not being able to close the right eye will not work. I feel so bad for him. He missed two big birds after I left, and said he had never missed a bird before. Hopefully the eye control will get back soon. A fun week of hunting. Called a good bird in for a friend this morning. One of those perfect hunts. 2 year old with 11" beard and 1" spurs. 23 pounds, came in on a string. 7 minutes from sit down to shot, AFTER his gun misfired, he fooled around with it, told me to shoot, I couldn't, I told him to shuck another shell.... All of that took over a minute while the bird was fully fanned out looking at us from 20 yards, nothing but air between us. LOL. That bird was hot!
