Heading to Binnys tomorrow to grab some stuff, they usually have a pretty good variety of beer. Im looking at picking up some sours, maybe some stouts. Do you guys have any recommendations on readily available beers I should try out?
I'd ask to see if they still have KBS(Kentucky Breakfast Stout) they may have it behind the counter. For wilds I've heard Destihl as a local option isn't bad but I'd also take a look and see if there are any Prairie artisan ales wilds or Jolly Pumpkin wild ales. Honestly I'd download the beer advocate app or untapped and you can look up any beer to get a general consensus of if the beer was liked by the masses. Yeah destihl isn't bad. Triptych brewing in savoy has some good stuff too. Thanks for the options. I'll check around. I'm sure I'll find something tomorrow. I'm going to download one or both of the apps too.

You scored three pretty solid brews there! Shipyard is one of my fav mainstream breweries up here. They kinda got me tasting what good beer was 10-12 years ago, when I was ready to graduate from Sam Adams and keystone in college haha! Petrus pale is a great introductory sour...got my bro-in-law hooked on sours with that very bottle. He's a total sourhead now. The smashed blueberry is ok if u like blueberry...I prefer the smashed pumpkin that releases in the fall. Also, when they release smashed pumpkin there's usually a bourbon barrel aged version that comes out too, it's great! That imperial stout is very solid IMO. Very roasty and has nice hints of coffee and chocolate. Shipyard is definitely a brewery to explore and develops your pallet. If you see their blue fin stout grab it. It's usually at most grocery stores here for $3.99 a bomber and it's my go to winter easy sipping stout. Enjoy the brew, and as always, Cheers!

Good to know I got some decent ones. I graduated last spring and like you I'm ready to try some better stuff lol I feel like sours is going to be my favorite so I can't wait to try this one out. The blueberry one looked interesting but I'll be looking for the pumpkin one for sure. The stout sounds like it will be good. I looked them up on BA and most people seem to like them. I'll let you guys know how I like them. Soon probably rather than later
I do. You can ship home brew the same as any other beer, it just needs a couple days to settle down once you get it. I prefer fedex or ups over the post office (they don't ask what's inside your package) since shipping beer is a little bit illegal.
"Same as any other beer"... What do you mean by this? I'm a novice... He's a novice... Neither of us have ever shipped beer or any type of liquid via mail before. How/what is the best thing he can put it in, etc.
Wrap it in bubble wrap and put it inside a trash bag and seal it the best you can in case it leaks. Definitely DO NOT say it is beer because they will tell you to leave!
Flat rate shipping via Priority mail is the best bet. Like Tom said, bubble wrap, egg crating and a heavy liner bag are your friends. Write fragile on the box in a few places. No mention of beer.
Not against the law for private individuals to ship beer wine or liquior to another individual. It is against the law to sell and ship beer and liquor that has been sold, wine is ok for some reason.
Shipping alcohol is prohibited for UPS and Fedex. If your package breaks and they find you are shipping beer, they toss the entire package. It's illegal to ship alcohol with USPS.
Funny UPS comes to the business everyday they have watched me put whiskey in a box tape it shut and put the sticker on it. My wife has had wine shipped from other parts of the country Fed Ex, the box clearly showed the winery it came from.
