Way to go HoytX!! Nice bird, and way to start it off for the whole site! Looks like a nice bird as well. Nice Stache going on there too!
Thanks guys. This bird is also my first one taken with a bow and the first blood for my year old hoyt nitrum. All kinds of firsts. The stars were aligned for once.
Great job Hoytx! Season doesn't start for another month here in PA. That's a great bird, way to put one on the board!
Thanks REALTREE. Damn Im starting to feel bad that most of y'all have to wait so long. Next month Ill be in Missouri on opening wknd there. Ill be there to go snagging but might see if I can find a place to look for some birds.
I'm good with whoever wants to be captain. I don't know how far we can trust a hillbilly with a lightsaber but we can give him the benefit of the doubt I guess.
Pftt.....roflmao! I have three wild toms strutting within about 75 yards of the house. I have three turkeys in my bird pens, two toms and a hen and these three toms have been coming up to them for the last week. I see why live decoys are illegal, lol. Pretty awesome!
Dang guys I've been busy as heck at work this week and haven't checked in until now. I got blanked on opening weekend here. First time in 2 years. My dad and stepmom both got one on opening day. Great day of hunting all around! My stepmom had knee replacement surgery about 6 weeks ago so she limped her way to the blind and got a nice tom. She was gun hunting and I'd say it should have been easier but she missed her first shot. I wanted to poke at her a little bit but I just couldn't bring myself to make fun of an aging half crippled woman. She made up for it on the 2nd shot though. Just wasn't in the cards for me but there are some more good birds on the property and I'll be heading back up tomorrow night to hunt Saturday and Sunday. Get to take my youngest daughter with me this time too so maybe it's better to save the first kill of the season for when she's with me. She's 10, almost 11, and likes turkey hunting so far. She's only been with me one day last fall and we didn't see anything. She doesn't want to go deer hunting yet though. Says deer are cute and turkeys are ugly so she doesn't mind killing them. Haha!! I sent Decapitation Inc. as the team name to Bloodcrick and volunteered as team captain so that's taken care of. Thanks for the votes, or at least default. Haha! It's all good. I captained our deer team last fall so no worries.
My argument to the game warden would be the ones in pens are pets. Tell him the CIA is spying on country folk and they are using wild animals to gather information in remote locations. Deer have antenna built into their antlers to transmit data back to their information centers for analysis. If you don't kill them, they will learn all your secrets. Trust me, he'll look right past the live decoy thing!!!!
Welcome aboard captain! I wouldn't shot these three turkeys here in the yard, they're all jakes with about a one or two inch beard. They get a little more brave every day. Yesterday they went down to the bird pens and strutted around there for an hour and then came back by the house within about thirty feet and scratched around in the east garden for another thirty minutes or so. They finally ambled off when I went out and got in the car to go to town.
Well got my first hunt in today had plenty of gobbling fist thing but they didn't cooperate. Had one hen come in.
Ok Ive tried to edit the thread name to add our team name but not sure if Im doing that right. Any suggestions.
