You might want to be careful posting up all the information online. DNR might get a little touchy about messing with a bear in a den.

Messing with a bear in a den sounds a lot like throwing gasoline on a fire but that's just me thinking out loud.

Exactly how was I messing with a bear in a den? I took a photo of it and left.

Any disturbance of a sleeping bear is messing and a half awake bear is totally unpredictable.

Yea, your mere presence is a disturbance. Going back to check that cam is another disturbance. Consider yourself lucky getting the pics that you have and leave it at that. As big as he looks, I don't think you want to piss him off.

There is this old saying about "don't poke the bear". I believe this includes when it's in the den also even though they left that part out......

LOL, I just don't have big enough balls to do that. I'd be the guy standing at 40 yards like he did and if that thing came out I'm outta here. I bet I'd break Olympic records with how fast I'd run.

Ever had to help someone that had been chewed on by a bear?

It's not a pretty sight and there is lots of blood and months in the hospital as the hospital staff tries to get all of the infection from what ever the bear had in his mouth out of your system.

    So pseudo I am not.

I have a few dens on my property that I think bears are in. I don't even go anywhere near them. I don't want to wake them up haha!

People do a lot of things "all the time", that doesn't necessarily make them OK. I just don't see any good coming from being around a bear while it's dening. They den for a reason, and don't need the attention from people during this time.

Look I am not in the mood for an argument, but I don't think fixing someone who has been bitten by a bear makes you an expert on bear behavior. Let's just say I have a liiiiitle more experience around bears than the average guy and I know a calculated risk when I see one when it comes to bears. If I felt like I was really in any danger I wouldn't have done it. Just try to learn from this like I am.

our DNR would most likely want to spend 5000,000$ on some kind of "study" to find out if disturbing it in a den makes any differance

Ok, but being in the mood and posting it on the Internet where people are gonna critique everything you do are two totally different things . I didn't say it was wrong or anything else but YOU posted it man??? Either take the flac off of it or delete the post. It's the Internet, you could be mother theresa and you're gonna catch some sh!t from someone on how you saved a kid wrong. If you've got a big enough pair to crawl in to a bear's den (which you obviously do ), then have a big enough pair to deal with the negative that comes with posting it online. If not, show it to your buddies and go about your day. I thought the pic was cool but I wouldn't do it.

Not arguing. Just speaking from a lot of years in the woods dealing with bears.
