Well I was only able to come home for five days last week to try and get a deer down in Illinois. Out of the five days that heavy rain storm blew in on two of them making it pretty gloomy. I decided that I was going to go out despite the torrential downpour and my brother in law came too. We got in our stands little before sunrise and he seen a buck head off into the thicket. We didn't see anything else all morning. We got down are lunch dried off and drank some coffee and decided in the evening I was going to climb this big oak tree with a little fixed stand in it abut 30ft up. It isn't the easiest climb but it is directly in the center of the thicket with great vantage point. Anyways, about four o clock came rolling around and I did some beating on my antlers and noticed 100yds away two doe lay down and then a buck came under a tree towards me. He came within 12 yards of the tree I was in broadside. I squaked and let my arrow fly clean pass through heart shot! Might not be the biggest buck but it was definitely most memorable for me. As it was pouring rain and also my last day hunting in Illinois. Couldn't of been happier!
