Wow this just gets better and better. So we went in this morning to a new area we put 3 stands in this year. We have hunted it before and it is private land that abuts public land that's divided by a stream. So 3 of us go into our stands and 2 are fine. The third and closest to the public land someone took all the tacks out of the trees so my buddy took forever finding the stand. It's pretty thick so he really couldn't find the trail we blazed in so he made tons of noise. Basically ruining his hunt. After we got out of our stands I looked along the stream to see if I could see how someone got across the stream which is pretty deep in some areas and really muddy you can't walk through it you would be up to your waist in mud. So I find this bridge that the public hunters made coming across. I mean not too big of a deal guys taking tacks out of trees but I just want a hunt that isn't some how screwed with by other guys that would be nice. Here's the bridge pretty comical. That's ridiculous, I feel bad for you, maybe you could sacrifice a few days sitting by the bridge and wait for them to come across and catch them.
We had a 2-man ladder stand taken off private land about 6-7 yrs ago. I narrowed down the list of suspects, either the guy on the private land next door (he died a couple yrs ago) or the guys growing dope from the next concession over (I've destroyed their crops the 2 times I found them) ... I had a friend who was having the same problem, he ended up taking an old camera and sticking it by his stand. Then he took one of those spy point cameras, aimed it at the stand/camera. The spy point sends its pictures over to another unit which he was able to camouflage from view. Long story short, caught the guy. He never did see the spy point.
Hunt public land in OH and had a strap on stand and steps stolen after being placed two days before....went to put my son in it and it was gone....never again. Pack a climber in and take it out everyday no matter what.....would love to use cameras but can't afford to throw money away. Sorry about your luck!
Yup I am going to go with a climber next year carry in carry out only way to avoid this. And I guess you have to put hidden cameras on your camera just in case. The honest hunter can't win I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hit a deer today and was waiting to let it bed down. Another hunter offered help my first thought was he just wants to see where I shot at him and he will put a stand in right on top of me. Who knows but that's how I think now. I already had a few guys coming but dealing with most of the hunters in area that's what they are like it sux thinking like that.
