Sorry i haven't posted much lately. This rut so far is kicking my butt...the weather has really screwed up the deer movement...plus most of my best spots are set up for a N to NW wind....& so far it's been south wind after south wind after south wind.....

I did pass up a really nice 3 year old this morning though...hard to watch one like that go by...but I know what lives on this farm...I just couldn't do it.

That south wind was tough. I have most stands set for N, NW.

One day at 2:30 I had a doe come by me, trail flicking non stop, and she would periodically lick back there. Her fawn was with her but she kept batting at him with her front hooves. She had to be in heat right?.....4 hours later a buck never showed.

It was a pretty solid weekend on my property. I had two shooters that ALMOST gave me a shot, lots of other activity in the woods. Big bucks still aren't quite amped up with testosterone yet. They responded to grunting and the decoy with curiosity, but were not aggressive. That should change pretty soon. Little bucks were chasing does all over the place. I even had a button buck dogging a doe trying to mount her right under my tree. She wasn't having any of it, and she thumped him good a couple times.

Here's a couple trail cam pics of the buck that gave me this slip Saturday morning. He's an absolute tank of a deer.

I passed this buck this morning. I'm not 100 percent sure, but the body makes me think 2 1/2. He's got some great potential.[IMG]

Definitely 2.5 years old. He looks more doe like. Great potential there!

Well after 10hrs in the stand I have nothing to show for it. I did see a nice 8p out at 50yds but that was it for the day. Not sure if I will be getting out for a few weeks due to rifle season.

Blew it this morning. Had a buck sneak in on me. I'm sitting in an old hedge row that separates my soybean plot from a bit of a staging area and then out into a CRP field. This buck came right down the hedge row from down wind of me, and turned to follow a trail to the east right before he got to my stand. He was literally at 6 yards before I could get the camera on him and grab my bow. Right as I tried to draw back, he spooked just a little bit and trotted forward to about 15 yards, but he was behind a tree and never gave me a shot. I saw this same deer in this same spot from another stand two days ago. I may try and get on him again tomorrow morning. My guess is that he is checking out doe bedding areas in the early mornings and was traveling from one to another.

Dang it! It sucks when you get so close and can't get the shot off. Been there plenty of times.

I whacked this guy yesterday morning about 9:30 am. He is not a giant by most standards, but he is pretty good for my area. Im guessing around 110". I will get him scored and entered as soon as I get the skull out of the beetles. Rules say I have to enter my first buck so here he is.

That's a heck of a buck. Another year or two and he could be special

Sorry team, there's been some family stuff happen this hunting season and I haven't been able to put the time in for bow hunting :-( I did fill my buck tag though. I feel bad that I didn't contribute a buck score but I got a dandy buck with my rifle. A dandy for me anyway. Good luck to the rest of you and again I'm sorry I didn't help more.
