I've been hunting a while and I like to be between 25 to 30 ft any lower and deer will bust you and any higher it is like shooting straight down at the deer even if they are a good distance I would not recommend only going 8 ft up but if you kill deer at that height then do what works for you
been as low as 10' and seen success, but most sets are 15-18 feet (climber has been retired and don't have enough steps to go above 18 now) was up about 25 once in old climber and got windy... never do that again...
All ladder stands, lowest is about 8' and the tallest is about 16'. Vast majority of my ladders are right at 15' at the seat Edit* 15' at the seat with all three ladders but I only use two sections so they are usually about 10' actual height. I'm in the brushy part of eastern KS and western MO so a lack of cover is rarely a problem. Here if you get over 18' you're going to be shooting through too much canopy. I had four doe walk right past me this morning down wind and never had a clue I was around. I think if most guys tried hunting lower, they'd have more success and enjoy their time more but that's just my opinion...whatever works.
My ladder stand is about 16 feet to the seat. One of hang on stand is 18 feet to the seat and the other side about 17 feet to the seat assuming that the 20 foot ladder sticks are actually 20 feet. I've heard of people being nine feet off the ground and having bucks walk right under them without being seen.
My lowest stand is about 12ft highest is about 18 killed buck this year from 15 have seen a bunch of deer from under 15 in years past. Hunt where the cover is, hunt correct wind and pray the deer don't come from downwind
The Public land I'm hunting demands that you hunt high! I'm never lower than 20' and usually closer to 25'. They talk about increased shot angle, but you're still only shooting at a "spot".
I like to get up to about 25 feet if the canopy will let me. as for only being able to get up 8 feet in your climber.. if its branches stopping you just cut them out of there
