Someone please tell me you've killed a mature buck using a Thermacell device. I've read threads stating the deer can smell it but aren't afraid of it. What about a mature buck?

They can see me jumping around swatting mosquitoes easier than they can smell the Thermacell!

I killed my best buck to date while using a Thermacell. He scored in the mid 130 and was at least 4 years old.

    1000% Yay.

I rank it as one of the most essential hunting accessories anyone can have... They simply work.

I wouldn't sit without one in the early season. I've gone on some special hunts for Sika Deer in the marshes of Virginia, there is no way you could sit for more than 5 minutes without one.

I have one. I think they're great for camping and fishing and I don't care what anyone says, I don't use it in the stand. I'm not saying it'll spook deer or anything, I am just afraid to use it. It's more enjoyable for me to swat Mosquitos and let the deer see me than it is to wonder if they can smell me. Personal thing, I guess.

I would use one, but lucky for me the best deterrent for mosquitos is cool temps. Not many of the pests left this time of year.

I'm down in Northern Arkansas and the bugs are insane early season!! I'm hunting public land, so not moving is even more important! I think I will try it out this year. My stand should be high enough and the smell should move up, not down! .

I used one this past weekend. Saw 12 deer. I'd risk the chance of it spooking a mature buck vs jumping around getting eaten alive and not seeing any deer.

Early season it's a must have for me. I try to stick with the un-scented ones though. Probably doesn't matter to deer but it does to me.

If they can smell the ThermaCELL, they can smell you.

I too shot a nice buck 132 inches at 6 yards last year with my thermscell running wide open for about 2 hrs and I was only about 8 feet high. It's a must for me the first couple weeks of season after that it's too cold for the little pests

I've never had a deer get spooked while using it thus far which is why I continue to use it. Oh, and it really keeps the skeeters away too. Early season must have in my opinion.

Won't even think of going in the woods early season without it! Had mine cranking when I shot my biggest buck 2 years ago.

If this was a brand new product, I'd be suspect, but they've been around long enough and there seems to be plenty of evidence to suggest they rarely if ever spook a deer.

If there is only a very small chance it could spook a deer and it keeps you comfortable, keeps you from moving, keeps you in the stand longer than the reward outweighs the small risk so I use them.
