Totally depends on the situation. No wind, calm unsuspecting deer, and preferably a bit of background noise(I hunt the suburbs, so road noise, leaf blowers, airplanes, ect.) and I'll shoot out to 40 if the hold feels good. Dead quiet morning and a nervous jumpy deer I won't shoot past 20.
I will say 35 or 40 but I haven't killed a deer over 22 yards in years. On one stand in Ohio I could shoot about 100 yards if I really wanted to but I just let them come close before I shoot.
I shoot at practice out to 80 yards. Under no circumstance would I shoot at a deer that far. Max distance shot I would take is 40. I like a 50 and 60 pin in case I need a follow up shot.
Wind and drop impact the arrow the same and in most cases the X-bow is louder so even though its capable to much can go wrong even though I bet you are right.
All depends, 20 - 30 in treestand with woods/obstacles that create problems. More open country 40 - 50. When I was out west hunting you better be able to shoot 60 yards. The alertness of the deer is another factor that I look at especially on longer shots.
40, I only have two stands where I can even shoot that far. If conditions are perfect I would shoot 50.
the kinetic energy of the bolt will drop off dramatically at those distances and would have very little penetration. most people in my area that have crossguns have never even hunted archery in their lives.
My last 2 bucks have been shot at 40 and 45. Not saying I would regularly take that long of a shot but conditions and circumstances were perfect. 30 - 35 yards is where I am most comfortable but practice out to 60 on regular basis.
Think I would have to say that 40 would be my max. I practice farther then that on occasion but I do shoot a lot at my 3d buck target at 40 and am very comfortable at that distance as long as it is a real good shot.
Moat of my deer bucks and does are about 15 to 25 yards no more but I practice long and hard at 40 45 so that's my limit even tho I probably could do more but hunting is not target practice.!
30 yards. But my main spot the farthest shot I can take ethically is 25. To the right of me I can take a 40 yard shot, but there's no way I'd take it. I want a 10-20 yard shot.
I practice out to 100 yards and only shoot tennis balls (some of you vets here will get a chuckle out of this)
I shot one at a little over 60 yards years ago but I knew how far it was, it was in an open field, no wind and I had an 80 yard range in my yard and shot it daily. I cant remember ever having a shot over 40 in the woods and I try to set up for 25 or less. However I would drop the string on one at 50 if I was standing in the open sticking its tongue out at me.
