anything from flying arrow archery either the toxic or cyclones all great. i use the cyclones and let me tell you massive holes and blood trails. Drops game fast and quick.
Blood trails....It depends where an animal is hit.... Having said that, the Slick tricks are sharp, pretty cheap and have been flawless for me, my mentor (about 20 years hunting) and my friends. They fly well and almost always give a pass through so great blood trails. Reading that I have been doing on BH's lately has me leaning towards a single bevel two blade head like the Dirt Nap or Solid BH's. From EVERYTHING I read, higherFOC is better, single bevels cut better, cause more damage and fly amazingly well. Despite my Slick trick passion, I have ordered some dirt naps. I'll give an update when I get them. I chose them over the Solids because of price. Tom
I thought those seemed cool, then I read reviews, and had a buddy try them last year. Made a good shot on an elk at 20 yards, granted the elk went down but had HORRIBLE penetration. and it never hit a bone. I like the Exodus personally.
Ramcats would be some to consider,as are the magnus stinger buzzcuts 4 blade,or magnus stinger or the new magnus hornet. If maximum penetration and damage is what you are wanting from a lower energy setup,a single bevel helix would be a great choice as well.
Good hit...blood trails will rarely matter much, but any broadhead will leave an ample blood trail even for this colored blind fool that I am if I do my part.
I shot Crimson Talon XT's for years and had great success. I switched to Wasp JakHammers this year to try something new and liked them as well.
My best buck to date was a perfect hit and traveled about 150 yards with little to no blood due to not having an exit hole. That is my main objective now,get that exit hole to aid in the tracking. I always liked the rocket steelhead but they never gave a good blood trail but my thought process was about the same as yours,until it almost cost me. Now it is cut on contact heads all the way.
I just got my first bow, came with what I believe are NAP thunderheads. What are the general opinions on these?
I can guarantee that's not the broadheads fault. You aren't doing your job or your setup is not ideal to shoot mechanicals. I know dozens of folks shooting killzones and literally hundreds of deer that have hit the dirt with them. Killzones have provided the best most brutal blood trails I have ever seen.
