Hello All- Last year was my first year bow hunting. I have been rifle hunting since I was 14, am now 30. I have absolutely fallen in love with this sport!! Last year I was able to use a spot that was already set up, and set to go. I was able to get a doe out of that spot! However, this year, I'm on my own. I have found some land next to a lake that I am able to hunt. Please see the picture below. The circled yellow area is the area I'm able to hunt. I did some scouting in the area this weekend, and have noted the heavily used game trail and bedding areas on the map. Also, the large field in the lower left of the picture is currently a bean field. What I need some help with is, where do I put my blind out? Where do I concentrate my efforts? Being completely new to this, I just don't know what to be looking for! Please offer some advice in any way you can! Thanks! It's MUCH appreciated!!
With a ground blind, set up 20-30 yards from where that trail comes out of the woods into the field. Just make sure you are mindful of the wind. If you have a tree stand go up the trail 75-100 yards and have set up there as well. Wait until late October to start hunting that set up. Beyond that a bigger picture would be necessary.
I would walk the field edge and look for spots where several trails converge to come out to the field. Find a tree 20 yards off that. Figure out the predominant wind direction, as having the wind blow into the field or away can be helpful depending on time of day.
