For 3 years now I've been entering the Michigan black bear lotto and finally got a tag for the U.P. So I get to go for my 1st ever bear hunt. I'll be going up September 23 - 30th and I can't wait. If I do get one what's the best thing to get them processed into? Jerky? Sausages?

hey good luck! if you ever want to hunt bears come to PA. we are starting to get over run in the northern half of the state. Like to see all of them gone if you ask me. tired of them getting into the garbage and clawing the crap out of my shed door trying to break it in. I can't ever get rid of those annoying things. they really don't like the electric fence I put up.

The next bear I shoot will all be going into burger and sausage, jerky as well. I'm not big on bear steaks but love burgers and sausage.

Congrats and good luck. I have eaten bear before at a wild game dinner a local club sponsored once. It wasn't bad. It was wrapped in bacon an they made ca-bobs.

Good Luck, I will be in the U.P. at the same time. Dont think about the meat until its in front of you, my first year (last year) I didn't see a single bear.

A person my husband knows shot a bear in our county (PA) last year. He gave us some meat - I thought it was delicious. Cooked just right, it was like a juicy beef filet. (I even chunked some and put it on sishkabobs) But, they aren't baited and eat mainly vegetation (corn and beans are mainly the fields) around here.

    But, nonetheless, good luck.
