I was wondering what y'all do when sitting in your tree stand the whole day.
I normally play games on my phone like Candy Crush etc. or I sleep.
Do y'all have any tips on how to stay in a tree stand longer?

I usually don't sit all day. Since I hunt private ground I will leave my pack and bow in the tree stand and sneak back to the house for a quick bite to eat and to use the facilities. I am usually only gone about an hour or so.

While in stand if I need to pass the time I will read the news on Twitter or play a game on my phone.

Man, it really depends on the situation for me. When I am hunting on my private land than i tend to leave during the middle of the day. But when I am on public land I stay in the stand as long as I can. I just stay on my phone. I will scout the land while i am in the tree. look for deer sign while in the stand with my binoculars. I try to study and learn from any of the deer activity I see or don't see.

Do yourself a favor and commit to just hunting don't diddle with your phone just try it for one season you will not regret it, just sit as still as possible and listen and watch.

Well, since I hunt in a hunting club here in Alabama, the hunting sucks... I saw about 3 deer last year. Actually 2 since I saw a spike twice. I just need something to help me waste some time in the stand.

Hunt. That's what you're there to do. Aside from texting with the other people I hunt with, I don't use my phone.

Most of the places I hunt don't get cell phone reception. It's a blessing and a curse.

I don't do all day sits. I have a bad back and can only take about 4-5 hours on stand before I need to walk around before my back seizes up.

I read books on my Kindle. And I'll admit, it has cost me deer now and then. In fact, it cost me a real nice buck last year.

I read articles on my phone sometimes, which, like Speed Goat, cost me a deer last fall. I was reading an article on my phone and suddenly a mature doe was right under the stand. Came in silently.

I listen to audio books with my mp3 player. 1 ear bud in 1 ear real low so I can still hear the woods. It also keeps my eyes available to scan the woods for deer. So far I've listened to all the harry potters, all 5 game of thrones novels, all the hunger games and moby ****.. Not sure what books I will listen too this season.

I really do not get those that can't just sit there and watch the woods, just hunt.

The older you get, the easier it will be to sit all day. For me stand time is a welcome time used to get away from all of the noise of electronics and every day life.

    Good luck this fall.

I don't do all day sits except during the rut. I just can't stay sharp enough to be effective, especially during the early season. After Nov 3rd or so I try to do as many as possible though.

    Blessings........Pastorjim

Other than answering texts from my wife, I stay off the phone and hunt. During the hunts that my four-year-old son joins me, I let him watch a movie with headphones on a portable DVD player. But those are not all day hunts, typically those hunts only last a little longer than the length of the movie.

You only hunt about 2 days a year.
