Really most of the cold stuff out there now is pretty good. I use a combination of U.A and something else I can't remember the name of. Info know that it's a moisture wicking material combined with fleece. I only where that stuff when it's approaching or below 0*F

After you have a moisture wicking layer you most definitely want to have a layer of merino wool. If you have a st. vinnies (used clothing store) in your area check it out. I have picked up Wool sweaters for like 2 dollars a piece.

My first layer I wear is the UA ColdGear Base 3.0, Then my lucky camo tshirt I've had since I was a kid. ( Yes It still fits me. haha )
After the tshirt I have this Rocky Fleece which is also moisture wicking. Then I put a wool sweater on...

On the extreme cold days, I consider the days when its 15-20 degrees or colder I wear my big sweater. Its by far the best sweater I have ever got. Its from Sportsmans Warehouse and I think they are like $80 bucks. I tried finding it online but wasn't able to. After all that, I have my Cabelas MT050 camo parka and bibs

My best advice I can give from experience is to not over dress prior to getting to your stand. If you get all sweaty, you will definitely get cold. Wear a good moisture wicking base layer and carry your other layers if you have too. Bring a small rag to wipe your face or any sweat. Staying dry is key. Once your settled in your stand nice and dry, you will be surprised how well you can handle the cold.

When it gets in the 30's or lower I use my Heater Body Suit and some good base layers.

You neglect to say whether you'll be sitting /stand hunting or spot and stalk. Both have their own special requirements.

I really like the investment of our Heater Body Suit. It has kept me in the tree longer than any under clothes.

I paired the UA 3.0 base layers with my Sitka Finatic series outer layers, and stayed warm all winter long.

In really cold weather? I am going with a lite synthetic base layer, UA style, with a heavier merino wool base layer over the top. Why? The synthetic has better wicking properties. Merino wool regulates heat better / warmer and is naturally antimicrobial to control scent. I always buy the heavier merino wool garments in a Mock T style with a zipper so I can better regulate my body temps on the walk in. The combination of these two items works best in extreme cold climates.

As others have said layers is king. I would probably go with a wool sweater next and then a light windproof shell over the top. Lastly I am not leaving for the stand without my HSB! (Heater Body Suit)
