    Hello all,
Noob here. I was wondering if you shoot a 400grain areow and a 100 grain field point, do you need to buy broad heads that are the same weight? I'm just trying to educate myself because all of this is new.

Also do you guys prefer mechanicle or fixed heads?

Google is an amazing tool and just do a search there are literally dozens of forums about this already. Good luck.

its better that your field points and broadheads are the same weight. i start out with a fixed blade broadhead. make sure your bow is tuned and your field points hit the same spot as your broadhead.

Yes, both need to be the same weight.

Where did you buy your equipment? I would have thought those questions would have been standard info. for you as a new hunter?
Youtube is a great resource as was already pointed out.

Yeah I would ask all the questions you can at your local range or pro shop. But yes you want your broad heads to match your field tips so they hit the same. If you are shooting 55 pounds I would probably use a fixed blade but mechanicals work too. You will find countless arguments on the internet about both types of broadheads but it boils down to preference and opinion. I really want to try single bevel fixed blades like dirt nap gears DRT broadhead

Yes field points should be the same weight as broadheads. I shoot a mechanical now but am most likely switching to a fixed for this year because I think there is less to go wrong with a fixed. At 55 lbs I would probably look for a good fixed head

Ignore the guys telling you to Google or ask at the shop. The purpose of this forum is to ask questions and talk archery.

Yes you want your field tips and broadheads to be the same weight. I also suspect you are shooting a 400 spine arrow, not 400 grains. That number on it is not the weight, but stiffness. Most will say on the shaft how much they weight grains per inch (gpi).
