Leave a cape on a buck for 10 days?? Did I read that wrong?

And congrats on the score thats a nice 8 for sure, though you said you didnt care what it would score.

What the deer scored has nothing to do with my appreciation of the deer and my decision to have the deer mounted. Any yes I left the hide on for 10 days in a climate controlled garage perfect temp is 42-40 degrees.

I wasn't insinuating that the score did, I said congrats on the score and acknowledged that you had previously stated the score didnt matter to you but for and 8pt that was a pretty good number.

As for leaving the cape on a deer for 10 days, even at that temp.... not a wise chioce IMO or any qualified taxidermists book.
That is why I asked if the cape was left on or just the hide. I totally get leaving it to hang unskinned in those temps, but leaving a cape on a carcass that long, with intentions to mount would not be advisable. Begging for slippage and a lost cape.

Thanks all. The Taxidermist came over and skinned it for me before it was processed he didn't voice any concerns about the cape so I assume it won't be a problem. I guess we will see about the cape when it comes back from the tannery.

What TJ said. Hair will start falling out. Always skin with in a couple days if you're going to use the cape for something.

Well like I said the taxidermist didn't seem to be concerned when he skinned it. The guy does quality work and I have known him for years he will let me know if there is an issue with the cape when he gets it back, he knows that I don't want a less than top quality mount.
