Hey guys, I had a pretty successful season, and I'm looking to improve upon it this year. I've started training for next season, and since I'll be hunting the mountains more this year, I'm working on a lot of cardio as well as shooting my bow every single day. I've been running a hill (about a mile and a half) we have in town with my backpack (40 pounds) on, and my bow in my hand. I've also worked a lot on my land, and got soybeans ready to lay down, as well as a bunch of smaller food plots. People often say doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. So what are you doing this year to make sure it's better than last year? What are you changing up? How are you improving your land, your shooting, or your fitness, to ensure a better hunt this coming season.
We bought our own house and farm with 53 acres and great ground surrounding it. Hopefully this will increase our odds for next year. Didn't get to hunt much this year with packing and moving and unpacking. We will be able to farm areas and plant food plots in other areas. Also upgrade the bedding areas. With this much ground there isn't much time to set still. Started lifting weights and just all around being more active. Good luck!!
Same thing I say every year except work always gets in the way. Try to find some private land in Pa to hunt. I had a good season on public ground but having something closer to home would always be welcomed.
I will be doing the same thing, take care of the does keep them at ease with no pressure, food plots and feed in the off season. Wait till November and hunt the bucks that come to chase the does.
I got a late start last year, and didn't get to scout much. This year I will scout and trim my lanes earlier.
I am going to get some more stands out and get good lanes, starting a few food plots, I want to be able to hunt with 70 pound draw.. I can pull it back in practice but I'm not sure about it when I'm in the stand and its 10 degrees and I have tons of clothes on. Also I'm going to get a better shooting form and practice as much as I can.
I'm going to put all my effort into the days before rifle season, then hang it up. I saw one deer with a bow in my hand after rifle season and it burned me out pretty bad. So more scouting and early prep.
That stinks man! That must be rough. I'm really fortunate to be the only one on my land, and no rifle hunting for miles.
Going to actually get in better shape and will shoot a back tension release this year. Going to plant a variety of food plots and put out a few mineral licks. Use a few 3G cameras with solar panels in sensitive areas so I don't have to intrude much.
The major differences between the 2014 and 2015 seasons will be to have a variety of hunting spots, a different stalking approach, and possibly more members of our hunting group.
My big difference this year is time. Since we got our place so late last year I didn't have time to really examine hunting spots and deer trails. 2015 will consist of more time in the field examining and taking notes with trail cams, and hopefully less shadow art. I will also be thickening up bedding with hinges and creating two secluded plots for spring and winter use.
Going to basic at Paris Island, South Carolina for one thing. The next thing is that I'll be bow hunting this year. I'll try to hunt as much as possible this spring for turkeys and then go out later. JWOAdventures
