Well the two 18 year olds may have been out on their own - but the juvenile should have been watched closer by parents (but heck, some parents allow their older teens out all hours of the day). I'm glad that the state is coming down harder on poachers. Poaching (and just leaving to waste away) is AWFUL! Those felonies on their records will make their lives hard, especially being young and dumb and carrying it all through the years where they should attempt to be make a career.

Who says their parents are any better than those kids? Seems like a lot of the time (not every time) kids are an exaggeration of their parents... then their children are an exaggeration of them. It's a horrible snowball effect.

I can guarantee this wasn't the first time. Just the first time they got caught. More than likely it was a learn behavior. I think the biggest issue with this is that it's damn near impossible for people that do this to get caught. There's usually about 1 agent to 6 or 8 counties. Not much chance of him catching them in the act, then if someone does report the activity, they may or may not be able to respond in time to actually catch them. More than likely the only reason they were caught is because their complete idiots and probably bragged to the wrong person. At least that's what happened to the Jackass in my neck of the woods a few years ago.

Their parents were probably home watching Duck Dynasty or Honey Boo Boo.

The sad thing is, if they can afford it, they will lawyer up and plea to lesser charges in exchange for the more serious charges reduced or dropped. I have closely watched several poaching cases in Illinois recently, and it is amazing how trivial the punishment is. The CPO's work hard to stop this nonsense, and the courts turn around and basically let this low life scum walk with a slap on the wrist. It's pitiful.

Reportedly these poachers only took the heads leaving the rest of the deer to rot.

I think the biggest problem is that there's no accountability taught to kids, the best evidence and good example of that is y'all blaming the parents when two of these guys were 18. While I agree someone should have taught them better, I spend more time talking to my kids about the rules, regulations, why they are important to preservation, etc., they still may have done it despite what they've been taught. Everywhere kids turn they're taught why things aren't their fault, I think they're about to learn that lesson.

While I feel bad for the parents (their kids charged with felonies will follow them forever) I feel worse for the deer.

I see/hear a lot of this especially when it comes to hunting around here. Bad parents = bad kids.

That's only about an hour south of me. Kudos to the wardens involved in making the arrests.

have you ever heard the expression "YOU ARE WHO RAISED YOU"? This is true in most cases...

I am 52 and have raised three boys all in college and all good kids, never been in trouble once....

Actually, no I've never heard that and it doesn't make a difference now that I did. Both my parents battled addiction, had run ins with the law, my dad even got busted for shooting a deer at night. I've never broken a single rule hunting, don't drink or self medicate, finished with honors from grad school, etc. So apparently, your nonsense about being "WHO RAISED YOU" doesn't always ring true now does it? It happens in more than "some cases".

They made the choice, it may have or may not have had to do with parents. One thing you obviously did right was teach your kids some accountability for their actions or I'm sure they would have gotten into plenty of trouble.
