the problem is you never see them and so many people use traps around the area they are smart to them. Get all night pictures of them rooting around the plots. This is my last year at this lease so i'm not putting anymore money into it by no means. Best way to get them off is with dogs at night and i cant afford to do so in the late deer season. But when i see one you can be sure its dead!! lol

can you hunt them at night? and as far as traps go you need to use coral style traps, you need to bait the traps a while to get them used to the traps...

Here is GA it's pretty much anything goes as far as killing them and the population still grows..

Yea in MS you can hunt them year round and at night. We do use those type of traps in the off season. They do work the best i find. Early bow season is the best time to see them when the gun shots start they go nocturnal.

Been having a horrible year. I normally hunt on a wood line at the bottom of the mountain between a field and a pond and see about 3 deer per day. This year hunted it just the same and saw maybe 6 deer in 20 sits. I moved up ontop of the mountain in the thickest part of the woods and have got back to seeing about 3 deer per day. Just a horrible hike at 6 am lol

I've sat a lot this year and only seen a few.
Haven't seen any sense rifle season.
I've learned a lot this year so its not a bad season, just a unproductive and frustrated one.

It has been real bad around here this year. Numbers are real low (some say 90 percent).

My season started slow too! Didn't see anything for probably ten sits. Then things got better.... just not for the deer. I didn't see many does at all this year though. I killed two of these with a bow and one with a gun. deer heads 029.jpg

season started off real good here in south ga but slowed down to nothing around thanksgiving. I've switched over to hunting hogs more than deer here lately. I picked up a "wicked " bow light for them at night and man is that thing great! I've tried a couple of other lights but they don't come close to the wicked light. Pick one up and go to town on the piggies. Might want to carry a pistol along with you if your not going to be up in a stand.

A very poor season here (Oct 1 - Dec 31). I will be boiling my tag for soup. This was my fault though. My hunting buddy and I leased a farm this fall but due to a number of commitments on both our parts, we did very little scouting. Consequently, we were set up in areas where the deer didn't seem to want to travel (although we did see a few the first couple of days). After the season ended, we spent a considerable amount of time scouting and found one area of the farm with lots of deer sign. We plan to go back to this farm next season, so hopefully we'll be a little smarter about pre-season scouting and have better luck.

While I sympathize with those that had a bad or slow season...but I can not relate.....I had one of the best seasons in many years, lots of deer seen tons of good bucks on cam 4 doe in the freezer and one good buck in the freezer and on the wall...

Still hoping I can hang on to the farm I have now, the lease runs through turkey season and the owner said will talk then.. I am still going to do all my winter stuff as if I am getting it next year. freshen up mineral licks and shed hunting / scouting...

I had 36 sits before I saw a deer and 44 sits before I had my first shot this season. Still have my buck tag in my pocket. I think god gives us seasons like these to test our fortitude and determination.
