The first weekend of November the deer were active and moving pretty good. Then the warm weather stretch arrived, and it's as if the deer vanished into thin air. The full, bright moon didn't help a thing either, but this past week has been the worst for seeing deer I have experienced since the opener. If you have been outside today...........you know it's not warm anymore! The high winds suck, but I really do feel that towards the end of this week, and this weekend, could bring some of the best rut and deer movement action of the season. I'm gonna bundle up and get after it this weekend. I have an antlerless tag left, and it would be nice to fill it before first gun season.
I was in the deer woods over the weekend too & had the same experience. Im heading out in the a.m. in hopes that temps in the teens will have the bucks cruising the bedding areas in shooting hours again. The 7 day forecast is predicting cold temps & decent winds so the plan is to hang out near the bedding areas for the next 5 mornings & pray something good happens. Good luck to ya.
I was out this morning. There wasn't anything moving tho. Not sure I want to go out tomorrow as it will be even colder. Had any good sightings?
The cold seems to have em on their feet in my area. We're seeing a lot of seeking & chasing. If youre not seeing deer where youre sitting now, go find em & set up accordingly.

no problem. Does anyone bow hunt state parks wearing orange during the first shotgun weekend? Or is that even allowed?
In the past, bowhunting has always been suspended during shotgun season. I would have to check the reg's to see if that's still the case, but I would imagine it is. I wouldn't have a problem bowhunting my own property during gun season, but I wouldn't be crazy about bowhunting public land with the orange army running around. Too many nuts with guns for me!
I don't think you can archery hunt during the gun season, atleast not the first one anyways. It may be both of them but you are allowed to the later ones? Either way during gun season I stay out of the woods.
I only ask because Lake Sangchris State park is open the next shotgun weekend for Muzzleload only (if you won the lottery). The first weekend it is not open for any gun hunting. So does anyone know if it is open for orange wearing bowhunters?
Blinds & Orange: Does anyone know 100% for sure if the outside of a blind during the gun seasons needs to be displayed with orange? If you find something and could cut and paste here I would appreciate. I saw on a hunting website where you had to on public but not private? Thanks for the help.
I've looked and looked and couldn't find anything but I know I've seen it somewhere that during gun season the blind has to have 400 inches of blaze orange visible all the way around it.
I have heard nothing about this and I don't think its a law because that is a pretty big change we would have heard about. I know in Indiana I have to have orange on any blind that isn't 4ft in the air during gun season.
Pretty sure I've seen this too in the hunting regs book. I'll try to find it later but for some reason this sticks out.
Can you carry multiple firearms during the gun season? Ex. I will have my savage 220 with me this weekend but I would like to take my 44mag revolver with me in case I have a deer inside 20 yrds.
Per DNR Regs, you may carry multiple firearms, so long as each firearm is legal for taking the animal you are hunting. E.g., I only carry my slug gun, since my 9 mm concealed carry pistol is not a legal deer hunting gun. Your 44 mag should be fine.
Times running out! What's everyone seeing lately? Now that we finally have some snow and temps are freezing I've been seeing a lot of doe feeding on standing beans.
