Sowed the seed just 6 days ago...Whitetail Institute No Plow and mixed in some oats and winter peas. 80lbs of lime and half bag of 10-10-10 so far.
Camera is facing part of a 1/4 acre plot. I only used my lawn thatcher/atv sprayer/hand seeder to create using Antler King Slam Dunk mix - (brand of rape/buckwheat/radish/peas) and a little bit of Honey Hole (3 kinds of rape/2 kinds of turnips).
about a one acre plot total. and a picture off my cell phone to give a idea of browse pressure. nearest the cam to furthest away= 6 foot strip of two week old winter rye/peas/brassicas. 12 foot strip of spring planted brassicas/beans/peas/buckwheat/sunflowers/clover. 12 foot strip of early july planted brassicas/buckwheat. 8 foot strip of heavyly browsed beans with brassicas broadcasted into them growing half ***(most the plot was in beans until July), 6 foot strip of brassicas, then early august planted winter rye/oats/peas/brassicas. 6 foot strip of last years rye/clover and on the other side of the mostly knocked down mature rye is a 1/8 acre of clover established into wiped out beans from 2013.
Brad your brassicas pulled through amazingly well and the bulb production is awesome! Honestly appears on par if not hair ahead of ours which is good because it gets cold for you well before us "usually"....picture taken Saturday.
I am calling it now...you will see bucks late season you never saw all season....just try helping them figure out the turnips are good by cutting a few up and slicing a few tops...awesome!
I hope so. I have 3-5 younger guys hanging around. One weird tall 6 pointer. I know the neighbors are getting some pics of some big guys so I know they are close.
Taken just over a week ago. The deer are absolutely hammering it. 6-8 each night in this plot with regularity. The entire outside looks like it was hit with a lawnmower. A mix of oats, rye, wheat and brassicas.
The brassicas are Heartland Wildlife Buck Buster. Oats are Buck Forage, wheat and rye is from the local FS. Brassicas were broadcast with a hand spreader and the wheat, oats, rye were drilled in on top of them. We planted on 8/13 but didn't get any rain for about a week for the seeds to germinate so you're looking at about 5-6 weeks of growth.
Mowed down a spot in my corn plot and planted these Turnips from Merit Seed (highly recommend) planted them the second week of August and they went crazy, cant wait for the frost to see what they can do. First time going with turnips.
